Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The SPECO CVC-57PH/HR B/W Mini Conical Pinhole Lens Board Camera with Housing is great for almost any discreet surveillance application. Protected by an incredibly compact housing, this camera sits in a hinge that allows you to adjust its tilt to virtually any angle. Designed to provide a high resolution picture even in low-light conditions, the SPECO CVC-57PH/HR is a great addition to any video surveillance system, especially in applications where you don't want your camera to draw attention to itself.

This miniature camera utilizes a 0.33-inch CCD (charge-coupled device) image sensor with a 3.6-millimeter conical pinhole lens, and provides 512-by-492 effective pixels. The CVC-57PH/HR has a high horizontal resolution of 400 TVL (TV lines), works well in low-light conditions with a minimum illumination of 0.5 Lux, and achieves a S/N (signal-to-noise) ratio of 46 dB or better. The SPECO CVC-57PH/HR operates on the EIA (Electronics Industries Association) scanning system, and includes a standard RCA for video output that allows it to connect to most any TV or VCR. This unit runs on 12-volts DC power, and can operate in temperatures ranging from 14 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit. The CVC-57PH/HR comes complete with a built-in automatic electronic shutter with speeds ranging from 1/50 to 1/10,000 of a second.

Technical Features:

  • S/N ratio: better than 46 dB
  • Sensitivity: minimum illumination of 0.5 Lux
  • Effective pixels: 512 by 492 pixels
  • Horizontal resolution: 400 TVL
  • Operating temperatures: 14 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Dimensions: 1.375 inches (both width and height)
The SPECO CVC-57PH/HR camera provides you with a high-quality picture from a versatile camera, and deserves serious consideration as an addition to your home or business security system. The CVC-57PH/HR comes completely assembled and ready to use, and includes all the necessary mounting hardware to place it virtually anywhere. Users should note that the CCD sensor may become permanently damaged if exposed to long hours of direct sunlight or halogen light, so the camera should not be mounted or pointed directly at the sun or other bright-light sources.

About Surveillance Camera Technical Features
Lux rating is the measurement used to indicate how sensitive a camera is to light, and stands for the level of light reflected off a piece of paper by a candle from one meter away. Thus a sensitivity of three Lux would mean a camera could generate an acceptable picture of a piece-of-paper-sized object that was illuminated by the equivalent of three candles from one meter away. The lower the Lux level, the better the camera's ability to work in low-light conditions. The camera's resolution should be greater than or equal to the resolution supported by the system's recorder or monitor. The S/N, or signal to noise ratio, is an important measure of a camera's quality. A poor camera, low-light conditions or poor wiring causes "noise" which consumes processing power and disk space. A camera with a wide dynamic range is ideal, especially for recording areas in which both indoor and outdoor light are present. CCD (charge-coupled device) sensors provide high-quality images that are less susceptible to noise. CMOS (complimentary metal-oxide semiconductor) sensors offer less image quality, but are usually more cost-effective and energy efficient.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good cam for the money. Decent low-light capabilities., August 16, 2006

Mine had a few "stuck pixels". Not a major problem though. Uses the standard +12v connector for power, and a BNC connector for video (my application needed an RCA video connector so I had to use an adapter, which works fine). It does have good low-light capabilities, but sometimes overcompensates when there are dark and light areas in the field of view.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as described and not described clearly, September 15, 2010

Just ordered and received this camera and I'm not happy.

Despite the "Technical Details" bullet point: "Runs on EIA scanning system and includes 12-volt DC power supply" it did NOT come with a power supply. Instead it came with a cable one might wire to a power supply- useless without buying additional equipment, which I would have done, had the description been accurate.

Further, the camera is BLACK AND WHITE. In retrospect, I can see that the B/W at the end of the the serial number-esque title "SPECO CVC-57PH/HR B/W" probably stands for Black and White. But seriously, in the entire 5 paragraph description, this is _not_ mentioned! In the technical details list it is _not_ mentioned. There are many variations of this camera that look very similar to one another. Some I have purchased previously, which were in color. I would expect the Black and White specification to be more clearly and prominently displayed on this model.
