This is a French collection of some of the most popular songs from Eggstone, a Malmo, Sweden export. They record sophisticated, accessible pop music reminiscent of late era Beach Boys, but with more bite. The background strings are remarkable, and the harmonies uplifting. This is my favorite album of 1999, and is a tremendous find.

Although very popular and influential in Sweden, Eggstone has never been able to crack the U.S. market. This just means that when I tell a person that my favorite song is "Taramasalata", most likely he or she will have no idea what I'm talking about.

Ca Chauffee En Suede is a collection of 19 of Eggstone's best songs. It features "Waiting for the Bell", "Brass", "If You Say", "Shooting Time" and the aforementioned "Taramasalata". Their music is entirely irrelevant, quotable and absolutely a blast to listen to. Only Eggstone could write an ode to water, a song about riding a bus, and a song about being a dog and make them sound really good.

My only complaint is that this cd is lacking Il Trascurato and Cornflake Crown, which are two other fantastic songs by Eggstone.

Anyway, get this cd. It will be a completely unique addition to anyone's cd collection...

Why Eggstone is not the most popular band in the world right now blows my mind. They have a wonderful sound devoid of sarcasm and harshness. They sound pleasant and sometimes even rock out without sounding too much like the Cardigans. The reason they have not broken out big time has something to do with the fact that they don't ever ever come to the states (and I hope they read this!) So, buy the record and fall in love... But don't expect to see them live. I think that they are mostly Europe based. This is actually my favorite band, if I had only one...

Eggstone melds emotional content to soaring pop artistry so effectively that I can't help but effusively recommend this Swedish masterpiece. If lilting heartfelt choruses and sharp string sections are your idea of pop bliss, take note of their name. The natural evolution of 70's power pop ... imagine Badfinger or Rundgren's heartfelt lyricism mixed in a simpler crisp sonic direction.

Get the word out on Eggstone! This is one of the pop world's unsung heroes. There are several albums by this band that are not available in the US. Amazon needs to get their hands on all of the previously released work - it's brilliant.

Sadly, not in the United States. Eggstone had the kind of precise, witty songwriting that's basically fallen out of favor in the U.S. if your name's not Ben Folds; and a 70s-ish production style that sounds like Burt Bacharach meeting Big Star in the (shag-rug-covered) studio. So yes, you should get this CD - it's worth it for "Good Morning" alone.
