4.0 out of 5 stars "Put down the knitting, the book, and the broom" August 23, 2009
Format:Audio CD
Included is an In-Depth 20 page booklet with pictures of the actors and descriptions of the song environments. I will not argue the virtues of the original play vs. the movie as I grew up on the movie. However I have seen a local version of the play. This recording gives you the feel that you are there. Many people appreciate the added songs because they paint a more in-depth story especially the added tracts. However I just like the music for its own sake. I am not going to go through the list of songs or singers as I thing you will enjoy discovering them your self. All I can say id even if you have other versions of the score you need to add this to your repertoire.

I am an actress and have performed the role of Fraulein Schneider several times. I ordered the book to refresh my memory and to recall the memorable and delightful lyrics of the songs. For those who have only seen the play, or do not know all the elements of Cabaret, this book should enthrall you, being many-faceted in it's sly depictions of the characters of Germany and it's culture in the 1930's. There are two romantic stories told...both with sad endings, but in the Finale, you see the brutality, the lives that are unable to escape it, and those that do, A story told with fierce honesty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cabaret June 5, 2012
Format:Audio CD
Cabaret is the original 1966 Broadway recording of the musical that is about German during the dying days of the Weimar Republic. The booklet contains short biographies of the performers and music notes. A very bitter and dark musical that deals with a very serious and sad subject. Highly recommended. 5/5.
