Best Activision Hunting Game yet for PS2!!!,
By AMDONUT "aitaylee" (New Jersey, USA) - See all my reviews Additionally, so far as I can tell there is no requirement to buy things, or sleep, or use animal calls. You can select from instant hunts, or a Safari. You need to pass through certain goals in order to unlock certain weapons and other hunting options - this is nothing new. One goal of the game is of course the challenge associated with hunting 'the Big Five.' Rhino, etc. I was very impressed, and enjoyed my first few hours with the game immensely. I have not opened or had resort to conferring with the manual once, which demonstrates how intuitive the game is - particularly for those who have played similar hunting type games, or 'Gun.' Another piece that I am quite pleased with is the difference between some of the other Cabela games I have played and this one, in terms of the settings and the way in which the animals react. Even on the easy settings, in the earlier Cabela games, the animals continually seemed to run away from you - often it almost felt as if they knew when you were zeroing in for a kill, and would suddenly bolt. You could use cover scent, come in downwind and creep on your hands and knees - it didn't make a difference. Safari doesn't play that way at all. There are some different types of hunts in Safari also, which for example have you shooting from the inside of a moving vehicle, etc. I have only made it through one Country so far [bought the game only yesterday], and look forward to the next challenge. There are a wide variety of animals to hunt, and unlike some of the earlier games, the bag limit per hunt is significantly higher. You do not need to retrieve your fallen game - another bonus. There is also the challenge of skirting a predator, which may simply decide to hunt you while you are engaged in hunting something else. You still have to deal with some rules, and there are points deducted for violations, however, it didn't bother me as much in this game as it has in past games. I have yet to figure everything out, use every weapon, hunt every animal, etc., however I am extremely impressed with this game, particularly when I compare it to some of the other hunting games I have purchased. This game is rated T for Teen. In my opinion it's the best hunting game offering on the market for PS2 since 'Deer Hunter' by Atari. Now if only they would do a version which was compatible with a light gun, or make one that had a Multi-player option...sigh....

This review is from: Cabelas African Safari (Video Game)
This is one great game. It has especially good graphics and it's really realistic when a rhino, wild boar, leopard, or buffalo charges you. There are tons of animals to hunt and five African countries to choose from. When you go on Safari Hunt you tour every country and stay at a lodge there, while trying to shoot all of the game in that particular country. The best part is after you complete the game it dosen't just sit on a shelf collecting dust, but it always has an exciting hunt to do. This is certainly a great use of your money!

What a great little hunting game for the PS2!!! Lots of animals to hunt and weapons to chose from!!! Incredible graphics too!!!It's not the easiest game to learn to play at first, but it gets easier as you play it and get more familiar with the controls!!! Remember, this is only a game, not real hunting,I would NEVER hunt these animals for real,it's a fantasy, not reality,I love animals!!! Having said that this is a fun game that me and my nephew enjoy playing!!! Definately not for everyones taste, but if you like a good hunting simulator, this one hits the target!!! Cabela's African Safari from Activision delivers!!! Two thumbs up!!! Way up!!! A+
