4.0 out of 5 stars Good Game
Installed the Game on my XP System, works great. Wouldn't really recommend for the very beginner computer user. I had some minor mouse problems, but that was easily fixed by changing the graphics settings from within the game.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice compromise
For parents, forever trying to steer their children away from violent war games, this PC program is a nice compromise. As for complaints about the program not running --- at our house, it did and does.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice compromise, July 24, 2006
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Cabela's Big Game Hunter 2005 Season (CD-ROM)
For parents, forever trying to steer their children away from violent war games, this PC program is a nice compromise. As for complaints about the program not running --- at our house, it did and does.

Admittedly, I am not thrilled with the shooting--especially of the 26 big game animals included in the program. Nor am I thrilled with the bit of blood that shows when an animal is downed.

Nevertheless, the violence in this program is moderate to negligible compared to the explosions, cannon fire, machine gun fire, and techno space-age firepower included in some--in fact, most--of the other available Teen games.

Just as important, my kid likes the game, and finds it interesting and fun.

At this age, kids just aren't interested in the truly mild kinds of programs --- building cities, playing Scrabble, building and managing a computerized business and so on. And even though such games would probably be really fun for them, the Teen rating is what the kids want.

I fault game companies for making the vast majority of games with heavily violent themes --- and for not making more challenging, fun kinds of things for the Teen age bracket.

Sure, game companies like Cabela make what sells. But if they stopped spoon feeding violence to everyone, maybe more wholesome games would sell, too.

In the meantime, if you need a "compromise" with your adamant child, this game (and others in this series) is probably about as good a bet as you will find.

This is the most boring hunting game I have ever played. I played this game once for almost 2 hours without seeing an any animals. If I wanted to sit in the wods and see nothing, I'd go hunting for real. When I play a hunting game I want action. Don't waste your time or money on this game.
