4.0 out of 5 stars PS2 Cabela's Monster Bass
A good first try for Cabela's... although it's quite short and since it's the first one, has quite a few glitches. It looks like the same designing team that did the Rapala bass games took on this one for Cabela's. The graphics are quite good (for a PS2) and it is a challenging game, at times. A good first try for Cabela's... although it's quite short and since it's the first one, has quite a few glitches. It looks like the same designing team that did the Rapala bass games took on this one for Cabela's. The graphics are quite good (for a PS2) and it is a challenging game, at times. You can drive your boat around a VERY limited area of various lakes, and complete a good variety of personal challenges (NOT competitions). I wish someone would make a game like BassStrike in which you could drive your boat around an entire virtual lake, and not just a little section of it. You get to choose from a male or female character (1 of each). Clothing cannot be changed, and it is NOT very good looking. Casting is VERY limited to long or short distance (1 of each) and it IS NOT easy to do a short cast, at least on the Sony controller I have. Casting is probably one of the more frustrating aspects of the game. I hope Cabela's continues to make more in the series (if it becomes a series). It's fun, the annoying talking telling you what to do is minimal, and the fish look pretty good, although some of their sizes are very unrealistic (~ 50 lbs.) You can shut off the music, if you so desire. Overall, a good product, and I recommend it, if you are into these types of games. I haven't seen a new PS2 fishing game for a while, so I was thrilled when it was released back in November. I know it will help me to get through the LONG New England winter!

5.0 out of 5 stars Realistic yet arcadish, May 3, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Cabela's Monster Bass (Video Game)
This game has a great aspect the graphics are great the lake and trees and fish look very lifelike (Though natsumes reel fishing 3 from 2003 looked comparable though it may be only to me for some reason in graphics) and the gameplay is even better (I suspect it has somthing to do with activision who allready successfully created rapala pro fishing released in 2004 and worked on rapala pro bass fishing released in 2010) its realistic in many aspects as in the way the fish fights the way you need to reel out to releive tension and the huge selection of bass species and alot of other species such as catfish and trout! though the gameplay is what puts it in the arcadish style (But whos complaining its damn fun!) You exicute combos that give you power ups like reeling in faster making the fish just make time go faster even hooking the fish is a combo this is actually the only game I've seen that utilizes the right analog stick anyway here are the pros and cons

Pros

1 Outstanding graphics

2 over 5000 acres of fine fishin lakes!

3 lakes are detailed and well planned out

4 you can drive your boat and electric motor mode

5 Several different types of fish including catfish pike black crappie tropical bluegill and several versions of bass!!!

6 choose between a male or female angler

7 lots of tackle!!!

8 awesome gameplay and great action

9 nice fish AI adds to realism and fish fights get intense!

10 Several Different arcade style combo moves to hook the fish reel it in and even land it!

Cons

1 Arcade style combos may not appeal to real fisherman that want a completely realistic game

Anyway awesome game great graphics every aspect of the game is great I LOVE IT and it give me great entertainment the combos make me feel like im playing DBZ budokai 3 doing hyper rushes also dbz sagas with these types of combo button smashing I love it!!!

This game is really enjoyable. The whole family enjoys it and it is a bit different every time you play depending on the choices you make during play. I would highly recommend this game.
