Editorial Reviews

From the Author

This is the most significant news of the first Virginia Cabells in over a century! In the same genre as "Elvis Sightings", I have put together everything I can find about William Cabell and his wife Elizabeth Burks in the first half of the 18th Century. We find William in over 100 sightings, plus another 300 appearances in court! Over 450 other people are indexed including Mayos and Carringtons and Hoopers and Burks. Most of these "clippings" are not widely known, so the little book brings a wealth of new information on the early Cabells. I discovered a long- running feud between William Cabbell and his cousins William Mayo and George Carrington. Also of interest was that William consistently spelled his name "Cabbell" until he returned from England in 1742, and it is consistently "Cabell" thereafter. Along the way, I also learned that in the British Empire prior to 1751, New Years Day was March 25 rather than January 1. The book also features a map along the James River where most of the sightings occurred. Also has computer-enhanced images of original letters between William and Elizabeth.
