Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Rich with humor and natural history, this memoir describes 25 summers of back-to-the-earth adventure as author William L. Sullivan and his wife Janell build a log cabin by hand along a roadless river deep in the wilds of Oregon's Coast Range. Along the way they confront beaver in the refrigerator, raise a family, and puzzle out a murder mystery that had haunted their homestead site. Cabin Fever takes readers to a warm world of kerosene lamplight, wood stoves, and ghost stories that may be true.

About the Author
William L. Sullivan is the author of a dozen books about Oregon, including "Oregon Trips & Trails" and a popular "100 Hikes" series. "Listening for Coyote," Sullivan's journal of his 1000-mile solo backpacking trek across the state, was a finalist for the Oregon Book Award in creative nonfiction and topped the New York Times' year-end review of travel books. He and his wife Janell Sorensen live in Eugene, Oregon during the winter, but they spend summers far from roads, mail, and telephones at their log cabin in Oregon's Coast Range.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cabin Fever, April 24, 2004
As someone who has grown up romanticizing the log cabin life, I absolutely loved this modern cabin story. It's typical Bill Sullivan - funny, historically informative, easy to read, and entertaining. Anyone who is a fan of Bill's will enjoy learning more about his family. Anyone who is new to Bill's work will want to read more after reading this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's a hoot!, September 15, 2008
By Robin Oak (Eugene, OR, USA) - See all my reviews
I recently completed this book and really enjoyed it. It's an easy read, full of nature and the wilderness, challenge and adventure, humor, and a warm family story. Though it is a light read, it still has its serious passages, reflective of those things in life we all face with family. Highly recommend it to those looking for a good, quick read with the backdrop of the great Oregon wilderness. With all its animal "characters", it really is a hoot!
