PreSchool-Grade 2-- McNally takes this traditional song in which a little man takes in a rabbit to hide him from a feared hunter and builds upon it, introducing many other animals of the forest who also need refuge. As the man beckons each animal inside his home, the population multiplies, and readers see such scenes as a moose, possum, beaver, and raccoon all in the bathroom bathing simultaneously. Finally a skunk hops by, knocks on the door, and enters the already heavy-laden household, providing the perfect way to empty the house of the animals. It's a funny twist to an ever-popular song with watercolor illustrations that add hilarity and delight. A lively addition for picture book collections and a good story hour filler. --Leslie Barban, Richland County Public Library, Columbia, SC
