I'll start by saying the Customer service is excellent, rarely I have seen a company follow up on these reviews and offer a free replacement for testing. Cable matters really cares about their products and reviews which means a lot to me at least.

I tested this product again and used another usb hub from a competitor which did not operate correctly by recognizing more than 1 USB 3.0 device plugged into it at one time. With regards to performance of this hub compared to a direct connection to the PC, while the write speeds are on par, read speeds are marginally slower which is not bad for a device capable of supporting 4 flash drives at once without requiring additional power supply. Using Crystal Disk and AS SSD which tests with compressed data, the flash drives I tested were close to direct connection in terms of speed overall with small deltas between tests. Overall I would be very happy with this hub.

Original:
This is one of the few hubs that picked up all my 3.0 flash drives but when it came to transferring it was usb 1.0 speeds

This little guy does exactly what you would think and does it very well! I've tested this with a couple machines but I ultimately use it primarily with my Acer S7 laptop.

Pros:
- Cheap
- While USB 3.0 data transfer speeds through this are a bit slower than if connected directly, it still is MUCH better than 2.0 speeds and that was exactly what I was hoping for.
- Small, compact, and easy to transport
- No compatibility issues nor random drops (I'm running some Hyper-V VMs through this guy sometimes on my laptop that needs more USB ports!)
- Not powered so you don't have to worry about a power cable/adapter to use this

Cons:
- Not powered so if you are charging a device via this, it will charge quite slowly

In less than 24 hours this hub's power adapter began doing strange noises... then a burnt plastic smell started to come out of this device... now its completely fried!

And... NO it wasn't an electrical problem on my end... I got other devices with power adapters and are working just fine...

I bought this usb hub for my macbook pro, it is great!, it's really fast, and although is a little larger than what I expected, it doesn't interfere with everyday work, and I've come to love the larger size, it means that usb connectors that sometimes are a bit large will have no problem with this hub, because of the design they won't bump into each other, or what happens sometimes, that will bump or won't fit in the usb port of the macbook pro if others cables are already connected

I'm starting to be a fan of Cable Matters products. They do what they should, and they also look fairly nice.

I've been using this as a "poor man's Thunderbolt dock" to connect my external hard drive, mouse, and keyboard when I connect to my work station, and it can definitely handle the full speed for the external drive (over 100MB/s in practice).

If you are like me, you can never have too many USB ports, especially when it comes to USB 3.0 and the need for speed. Even my new Macbook Pro only has two USB ports, and between flash drives and accessories, I found myself always needing to switch out drives or devices. I have this on my desk at home and have the usual every day stuff connected. This makes connecting to my home setup (monitor, full keyboard, scanner/printer) a breeze, and I still have open ports for my USB drives. The 4-port SuperSpeed USB hub by Cable Matters is well built and sturdy. The cable is 7" long, including the plug, which leaves room to tuck the hub out of the way without loosing it on your desk. And the connecting cable and actual USB plug feels well made and has a solid feel when connecting and disconnecting it from my computer. I priced similar models at much higher prices and found this one to fit my needs perfectly. Buy without fear, this product comes and works as described.

I have this hooked up to my MBP Retina's USB 3 port, then a bunch of USB 3 portable drives to it. Copying large size video files between drives and between the laptop and the drives has become a breeze now. Excellent speed. Very nice build quality and price is right. Only couple times I had to turn it off and on again as drives were not showing up on the computer. Otherwise it has worked well. As long as it lasts several years, it's worth the price give all ports are USB 3, not a mixture of 2 and 3.

Also because of good throughput, FCP X performs well with native files without needing to create proxy media.

Great buy for the price. Works great. The dongle is a little bigger than I expected but all in all works wonderfully.
