The quality of this cable/adapter seems to be very good!

The DVI connector is cheap plastic, twice the size of a standard DVI mold, and the screws are too short to screw into anything.

I needed to connect an old 24" Dell monitor to my new Retina MacBook Pro at work and this works fine.

Works as expected, picture quality is great! The connectors are indeed gold plated, and I have superb picture going through. However, if design is important, even though cables are rarely seen, the cable pictured is not the one you receive. For a better idea of what the connectors look like, take a look at the 3 ft version. The 6 ft version does not have the nice chiclet inspired design as pictured, but instead, a cheesy looking curved design. A bit disappointed, but it works ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

A word of warning, thunderbolt does not support DVI-A. Only DVI-D and DVI-I. At least this cable doesn't. Something to keep in mind if your monitor requires a DVI-A connection. Basically DVI-A stands for an Analog connection, DVI-D is digital and DVI-I is both.

This cable worked perfectly for me. Some of the other reviews have complained that the DVI end is too large or that the screws are too short, but I didn't feel that there was anything unusual about it and had no trouble connecting to a Dell monitor. Possibly they've made changes to the item?

The plastic moulding at the mini-displayport end is also unremarkable. It does not interfere with the adjacent USB and Firewire ports on my 2011 MacBook Pro.

In short, this cable is exactly what it purports to be. No surprises. If you need it, get it.

I'm using this cable from the Thunderbolt port of a mid-2012 MacBook Air, and it works great with my ViewSonic Digital LCD display for mirroring (including "clamshell" mode with the lid closed) and for dual display. Works great!

If you have a monitor without enough clearance around the DVI connectors, like my Dell S2240M LCD, it can be difficult/tricky to plug this DVI cable in. But I prefer the all-in-one cable from a bulkier mini-DP to DVI adapter and then another cable.

After looking for a way to hook our projector up to our Mac, we decided on this cable. I like that we didn't have to buy two separate pieces - the DVI to miniport from apple is super short so we would have then had to purchase a DVI extension to reach the projector - total cost would have been around $60!!...so, a great savings. The cord is exactly as it says. It actually doesnt block any of the other ports (see other reviews - some mention this as a problem) on either our desktop or laptop (macbook pro) so not sure if they changed the design based on other reviews or what...but, that wasn't an issue.

This Mini Display Port (MDP) to DVI cable arrived as pictured. The MDP end is very compact and didn't interfere at all with the USB port next to it on my silver 13" MacBook Pro. The construction isn't the best quality, but it probably will hold up okay with careful use. Port fit is snug, but the attachment bolts are too short to screw into the anchor nuts on my dual input monitor. (The anchor bolts on the better quality VGA cable used with the same monitor attach securely.) This borders on unacceptable, but considering that it's hard to find a similar cable without an overly thick MDP plug, maybe this cable is a tolerable option. It did work for its intended purpose with a couple simple adjustments of the Mac's display preferences and, of course, switching the monitor input setting to DVI. I hope this helps. Four stars might be a bit generous, but it won't break the bank in any case.

Connecting Lenovo Thinkpad W530 with Dell 2408WFP, works fine. Some reviewers mentioned that the DVI end is too large. The measures are 15mm X 39mm X 54mm (plastic part before the wire).
