1.0 out of 5 stars In stock, not in stock? Who knows?
Wasted a day when Sewell canceled my order as "out of stock", even though they still show "2 in stock".

Have no idea how well the product works, but now I know that Sewell doesn't.

We would have had to use a forensic data recovery service if we had not been able to use the adapter. We are now using it as our standard data porting method for rebuilding hard drives and porting data to new computers. We purchased an additional plug that allows us to interface with laptop hard drives as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Windows or Mac, July 16, 2006
This review is from: Cables To Go - 30500 - USB 2.0 To IDE Adapter (Personal Computers)
Great product! I recently switched to a laptop and purchased this adapter to regain use of my desktop hard drive.

The adapter worked perfectly under Windows XP and Mac OSX with no installation needed. In both environments the hard drive appeared plug-and-play as just another HDD attached -- just as if I plugged in a USB memory stick.

I purchased this particular USB-IDE adapter because it has the USB hi-speed logo, CE, and FCC certifications.

4.0 out of 5 stars IDE Hard drive adaptor, February 12, 2007

If you have hard drive to test or check contents of, this is the easiest way to do it. A single usb connection and connecting the external power adaptor (included) spins most drives right up and you can check contents, etc. through "My Computer - external devices. Works every time.. except of course when the drive being tested is defective - which is usually what you are trying to find out in the first place.

5.0 out of 5 stars easy to use, does the job, December 22, 2009
This review is from: Cables To Go - 30500 - USB 2.0 To IDE Adapter (Personal Computers)
when my gateway tower died after 5+ years of reliability i was in a panic because although i was pretty good with backing up files on an external HD, i didn't get everything. in fact, i missed alot of stuff. after checking out data recovery services and looking at costs of almost $200, i did a little research, came across this and thought, "why not give it a shot before i try a service"

a 2nd grader could set it up. all you have to do is remove your old HD from your computer, make the connection and drag your files into whatever new drive you like. If your old HD has failed mechanically, this will not work - in my case i was getting crazy error messages in my old system saying that windows could not start, config files were corrupted/missing and some other crazy stuff, but i knew at the very least, the drive issue was not mechanical. nothing else i tried worked and i knew if i reinstalled my os i would lose my files.

this product could not have worked better. Highly recommended

1.0 out of 5 stars Wouldn't work on multiple systems, March 13, 2008
This review is from: Cables To Go - 30500 - USB 2.0 To IDE Adapter (Personal Computers)
Got one of these today and so far it hasn't worked at all. I've tried three (working) IDE drives and a laptop drive. The best success I've had is for the adapter to show up in Device Manager, but the drive never appears in My Computer. Of course, this is Vista's doing, I'm thinking, but I tried it in my WinXP PC with the same results. Apparently I got a defective unit but I won't be asking for a trade-in.
