5.0 out of 5 stars one component of the simplification of my life
When I bought a LCD tv last year, I specifically decided to save $100 bucks and not have one that had a DVD player built in. My laptop has a DVD player, and I figured I could hook the laptop up to the TV when I wanted to watch a movie. When I found this cord, it was EXACTLY what I was looking for, combines both the audio cable and the monitor cable into one cable. Great...

I'm writing this review to let users know this cable will rust after about a year (one).

The cable does work though if you do plan on hooking up your laptop/computer vga out to your TV's pc input (vga). When I had originally purchased the cable it was able to do 1920X1200(?) after after about a year and once the rust came in I was only able to get...

The audio cable is not long enough. The D-Sub port is a little far away from the audio out port on my Dell Latitude D600. Has to buy an audio extension cable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product, August 6, 2007
This review is from: Cables To Go - 43098 - 25ft HD15 M/M UXGA Monitor Cable with 3.5mm Audio (Black) (Personal Computers)
This cable is top notch, I am using it to hook my laptop up to my 42" plasma Tv as a monitor. It works great and the sound wire incorporated into the cable makes for a less messy application and works great too. I recommend this cable for anyone with a need.

5.0 out of 5 stars Macbook Pro to LCD HDTV, November 4, 2008

Here's the short review....It works & it works FANTASTIC! And very easy to set up. If you want further details, read on.

Used with 15" Macbook Pro, (purchase 6/08)DVI output [with DVI to VGA adapter supplied with Mac] & this HDTV Samsung LNT4665F 46" 1080p LCD HDTV I purchased this cable from Amazon. Literally, this is all I did after putting waaaaay too much research in this. Hooked the DVI to VGA adapter cable to this cable. Plugged the DVI adapter into the Mac. Both TV & PC were turned off. I then plugged this cable into the PC IN port (vga) on the TV. I powered up the TV, switched it to the PC mode [just like video 1 or 2] powered up the Mac & BAM. The wallpaper on the Mac appeared on the TV. No set up screens appeared it just did it all itself. This is what's considered an "extension" of the desktop. I went to The Lost ABC website...selected "watch previous episodes" Selected Season 1 & the first show and then selected HDTV version over the standard. The Mac is connected to my network wirelessly but I decided to go for broke. I dragged the window to the right and it appeared on my TV Screen. Maximized it and even turned on the surround sound guess I was feeling lucky. Not one problem. By the way, the sound plug [mini plug on this cable] plugs into the headphone jack on the Mac & the sound jack on the TV right next to the PC In port. Hey...that's it...works like a charm & no complaints. The pic is as clear on the TV as on the 15" Mac...Perfect! There are some less expensive ones out there but if ya want a clear pic, you can't go cheap on cables. Sometimes ya get lucky, but most of the time ya get fuzzy. If you've read this far, you're obsessive compulsive like me...get a life! Sorry...couldn't help myself. I research waaaa toooo much! Hope it helps!

4.0 out of 5 stars The audio cable is 23" long, September 10, 2008

This review is from: Cables To Go - 43098 - 25ft HD15 M/M UXGA Monitor Cable with 3.5mm Audio (Black) (Personal Computers)
After reading the previous useful reviews, I was concerned about the length of the audio cable - if it would be long enough to reach both the VGA and audio ports on my laptop, which are on opposite L/R sides. Well I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived - unlike the photo, it was long enough. I measured the audio cable at 23" long, not including the VGA and audio jack housings.

I've used the cable several times with no problems between my laptop and my 1080 flat screen TV and am pleased with this purchase.

7/28/10 Update - Product still performs well. It now runs between a PC in the basement and the 1st floor TV, but is barely used.

I'm writing this review to let users know this cable will rust after about a year (one).

The cable does work though if you do plan on hooking up your laptop/computer vga out to your TV's pc input (vga). When I had originally purchased the cable it was able to do 1920X1200(?) after after about a year and once the rust came in I was only able to get (1060x600(?) which made the desktop and all the icons look HUGE and when I was viewing a internet browser required a lot of scrolling to view web pages. Also, I"m not quite sure this cable has any kind of shielding for the cable.

Another negative about this cable I've learned is the long length is not good for two reasons.

1) The quality of the data being transmitted from PC to TV does degrade with such a long cable. If you can do a 6ft cable I suggest doing so. On my most recent purchase I went with a 10ft cable (for slight convenience on where I wanted to position my laptop)

2) The extremely long length of this cable puts A LOT of stress on the VGA port on your laptop and over time you'll notice the VGA port 'saggin' somewhat on your lap. Your laptop does does not have 'screws' to keep the VGA port in place like your TV does. The bad thing about this is that your VGA port I learned from the guys at Geek Squad is that the VGA is hooked up to your mother board and the cost of replacing it should you mess up that VGA port will be around $200.

In addition, be warned these cables are VERY bulky and gets to become a pain to work with.

This cable does what it's suppose to do, but I elected to purchase a better built cable with shielding so that my signal does not get degraded from the laptop to the TV.

I know many of you like me are conscious, educated, value buyers with that being said. I"m not sure I'd recommend buying this product simply cause its 'cheap'. I was able to get my hands on QUALITY cables by Monster here on Amazon that have been fantastic. With free shipping and no tax and being cheaper than a nationwide electronics retailer I suggest purchasing these cables instead. I've had them for a week and there is a considerable difference in quality.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002CVTU8S (for Monster VGA/VGA cable 10ft)

Only downside is you have to buy 3.5mm audio cables which is why I bought these:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00119P4IW (for Tripp Lite 3.5mm audio cables 10ft)

In total I got both those cables with shipping and tax ($0)for $25 and I'm much much happier having spent 10 bucks more for quality cables which will make my tv/laptop connectivity experience much more pleasurable.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mysterious cable compared to the old short cable, November 11, 2007

My old cable always got me 1080P resolution on my LCD TV, but it was short. I need a 15 feet cable, but settled on this 25' cable. When I first hooked this up using a DVI to DB15 converter on my PC adapter and the DB15 port on the PC, I only got 1600x1200 on the TV, secondary monitor. When I forced it to 1920x1080, I would get an "invalid format" message on the TV. I am not sure what I did, but I took cable off put it back on a few times, boot the PC a few times and download the latest ATI graphic driver and Catalyst Control Center from ATI website, now I am able to get 1080P resolution without much hassle. If I tweak too much by doing swapping displays and changing resolution too often, I occasionally got an invalid format again, but by disenabling it and enabling the secondary monitor (TV) using ATI Catalyst Control Center, I always was able to bring it back. It definitely is a little more fickly than the old short cable, but once I got used to it, it is no big problem.

This review is from: Cables To Go - 43098 - 25ft HD15 M/M UXGA Monitor Cable with 3.5mm Audio (Black) (Personal Computers)
I got this cable to hook up a laptop to the TV, and it works great.

My local retail stores all offered kludgy alternatives costing much more.

My only negative is that the cable is thicker than I realized and doesn't hide well under the area rug between the TV and couch.

This cable performs as advertised. The only problem is that the male audio plug required an adapter to get into my TV. It would be nice if the more common adapters were provided to avoid a shopping trip to Radio Shack.
