5.0 out of 5 stars Very nice, solid feeling, solid performing., January 10, 2007
By J. Royce (Nashua, NH United States) - See all my reviews

The design of this hub feels solid--it is heavier than most USB hubs and stays put on my desk, even when cables from USB devices are dangling over the edge. I really like the fact that this unit has ports on both sides...for me, this allowed me to attach my fixed devices (like my printer and webcam) to the back ports--keeping them neatly out of sight--while still providing three front ports for more transient devices like my cell phone or digital camera.

I've also noticed that this hub does not seem to slow down all devices when a single 1.0 or 1.1 device is attached. My printer is an old HP 930C and my IPod still connects under USB 2.0, even when both are attached.

1.0 out of 5 stars Perhaps I got a bad one..., December 29, 2007
By M. Bergeron "Muziclvr" (Colchester, VT United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
...as every other review glows positively about this, but I've experienced 'iffy' ports(live at one moment, dead other times, replugging the cord sometimes helps, other times not), and sub-USB 1.0 transfer speeds with this hub. I've tried different cables and the fault seems to lie with the hub itself.

Pity, because on the plus side, it IS a nice sturdy metal package that seems well built.
======================
Update:
Amazon did a no-hassle replacement on the hub.
Four months later, no repeat problems.
Guess I did indeed get a bad one.

Too bad Amazon doesn't allow rating edits, I'd bump it up to a five.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does what it says with no problems, June 25, 2007
I've got two of these now, one in my MacBook Pro setup and another attached to my wife's iMac. Mine is plugged into AC as well, hers is not; no problems on either system. Having gone through a number of other hubs, this is a pleasant surprise.

The addition of a sliding tray for the hub is a great idea, but note that the hub in no way locks or clicks in place when it's in it, so you won't be able to mount it vertically (e.g., attaching it with velcro to the side of a desk, etc.) unless you bypass using the tray (which comes with two mounting screws), so not a big deal there. But it's an odd omission.

One complaint: the blue light. I understand the necessity of a "I'm getting power/I'm connected" light on a device, but the blue light on this illuminates very brightly. Usually not an issue but if you have your computer in a bedroom, note that you'll need to shut down your computer (and not just sleep it) in order to have that light go off. (And that blue light seems to be on every device these days, eh.) Just FYI.

1.0 out of 5 stars This hub literally went up in smoke. Maybe your luck will be better?
I purchased this on April 18. I used it like 5 times. Then on July 11, it went up in smoke. Literally. It caused my whole room to smell like burning electronics. Need I say more?

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice design, good throughput, great customer service
I got this unit and really liked it, nice design, two ports died after about 6 months, the customer service on was really great, a new unit is on the way in less than 24 hours.
