Be advised, this does not work to take an RCA video out signal to a VGA input.

For ANY S-Video to VGA adapater to work, your computer MUST have tv-out capabilities. This is dependent upon your graphics card type. I did my research, and since my computer has tv-out capability this adapter worked just fine. Having both S-Video and RCA is a nice feature as well.

Note that this cable will NOT work with most video cards. The VGA card in your computer MUST specifically state that it is compatible with TV-Out function capability or this cable will be useless to you. Google your exact video card model number and TV-Out and you should find whether or not this card will work for you.

Before you even think of buying this product make sure your computer has TV-OUT Capability. This is dependent upon your computer graphics card. You cannot simply connect the wire to go from VGA to Composite or S-Video or vice-versa and expect it to work.

I bought this cable so that i could connect my second laptop to my television, it did not work, no worries, my first laptop has S-video out so i use a different cable to connect my first laptop to my television. That serves my purpose.

I felt bad that this did not work, luckily one of my friends was looking for this cable and he happens to have TV-out on his laptop, so he was happy to have it, it works perfectly on his laptop. So i have no complaints about the seller.

I cannot take credit away from the seller, I should have done my home work right before buying this product. The product arrived on time, packaged in a bubble envelope, no complaints there either.

This is for the many of you who have given this product one star.

The cable works just fine if you know how to use it.

Please do not review a product that is not working because you do not know how
to use it
.
This product is to be used to run a TV from your computer only. In other words
it should only be used from a VGA output from your computer to a TV and only if you
have a computer that has a video card that supports this feature.

The computer than has to be configured to run that 2nd video source.

I repeat: no more bad reviews because "you" do not know how to use a product.

I read the reviews before buying this cable and decided to buy it anyway because it didn't cost much. My laptop has an nvidia go6100 video card which technically supports tv out capability. My machine has no s-video output however, only vga. I plugged this cable into the vga output and connected it to a standard definition crt television with a composite av cable. After messing around with the display settings on my laptop for some time i managed to get a highly distorted black and white image of my desktop screen to appear on the tv. And that's as far as i ever got. I tried the cable a few more times with different graphics drivers but couldn't get any image to appear on the tv again. I can't really complain because i assumed this cable wouldn't work when i bought it. My machine isn't really configured for tv-out functionality, although the hardware should support it. It could be just a matter of finding the right settings or drivers, but it's not worth trouble for me. Just thought I'd toss this review up here to share my experience.

You cannot simply adapt the wire to go from composite or s-video to vga, or vice-versa. The video is encoded differently. In composite, all of the brightness and color information is on a single wire. VGA splits that information up into different channels. You need to transcode the video in order for the conversion to work. Transcoders generally cost >$100.
