5.0 out of 5 stars New hard-to-find cable for new Aluminum iMacs
This cable was not to be found at local office supply stores (even though it appears on their websites), electronics retailers, etc.

I recommend this cable when specifically used to transfer data on Apple Macintosh iMac computers (newer models only) with MIGRATION ASSISTANT software as provided by Apple as part of their Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard operating system...

1.0 out of 5 stars Comes SILVER, NOT WHITE!
I've received it & return next day as Amazon sent me an item not as described on site... I really need white one, but it comes in silver. Besides that, the product itself should be ok.

This cable was not to be found at local office supply stores (even though it appears on their websites), electronics retailers, etc.

I recommend this cable when specifically used to transfer data on Apple Macintosh iMac computers (newer models only) with MIGRATION ASSISTANT software as provided by Apple as part of their Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard operating system. I tried using ethernet/wireless and had poor results. Best results were obtained using this cable and directly connecting the two computers.

4.0 out of 5 stars It works, its thick, its Silver not white, it slips out with not much effort, April 12, 2009

This review is from: Cables Unlimited 6-Feet 9-Pin to 6-Pin IEEE 1394B Bilingual Firewire 800 Cable (MSC512006) (Personal Computers)
I bought this because I have a MacPro with the Firewire 800 port. The cable is clear showing the silver braided shielding. It works for the several months I've had it. I've used the cable alone with a portable drive and with an external drive. I have used it with a firewire hub. I have had no problems with this cable except it seems to easily get knocked out of the port. It does click in, but it wiggles loose. I don't know if the cable should have a tighter fit or if it has to do with the depth of the port itself. I only have one of these cables so I have nothing to compare it to. If you look at the length of a usb connector and the firewire 800 connector you'll see the firewire it shorter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worked well, July 15, 2009

This cable worked perfectly to migrate data from an older Mac to my new one. They did send a black cable instead of a white (as pictured), but this wasn't an issue for me since I don't need it out all the time. However if you're planning to have it connected all the time, you might want to check on the color before you order.

...and it got the job done. It seems like it's well constructed and the price was good. I haven't had any problems with it so far.

I bought this cable to use Mac's migration assistant, from an old Power Mac G5 to a new MacBook. I couldn't get migration assistant to work, but it wasn't the cable's fault. The cable worked really well when transferring data to/from an external hard drive. The product photograph shows a white cable, mine was silver. Looks pretty nice. No problems for me.

A no hassle product from Amazon. Unpacked it, plugged it and made clicked a switch on my device and everything worked as planned.

A great addition to my iMac and also freed up a much needed USB port.

Like others have said, this cable does not appear as it does in the product photo. It is clear, with a burly silver transfer cable running through it. Visually, it looks great.

Even better, this cable fits a much-needed niche for Mac users transferring from an older Firewire 400 machine to a Firewire 800 machine, or anyone using a Firewire 400-based external hard drive with a Firewire 800-based machine.

The ends of the plugs are solid and fit nicely into the female parts of my machines. They do not have any wiggle or play, as some reviewers have suggested.

Data is currently transferring from my old machine to my new machine at a rate of about 1 GB/minute. I'm not certain if this is as fast as regular Firewire 400, but for most purposes, this should be fast enough.

I have also used this cable with my older Iomega eGo Firewire & USB 2.0 external hard drive (http://www.amazon.com/Iomega-FireWire-Portable-External-34403/dp/B001C5AJLM/ref=cm_cr-mr-title), which requires power transfer through the Firewire cable. This cable works with no issues for that application.

You need this cable and you know they sell this sort of thing for much more at the Apple store; pick this one up and be happy!

How pleased I was to get this 9 pin to 6 pin cable so quickly and efficiently in order to get my new Mac going, after finding that the Apple store itself could not supply the cable. It is a bit bulkier than the borrowed cable at the Apple store, but it transferred the data very quickly.

I had to find a 9-Pin to 6-Pin firewire cable to transfer data from my iMac G5 hard drive over to my new iMac i5 Quad Core computer. My G5's motherboard and power supply were failing, and I upgraded to a new iMac computer. I checked prices at my local stores, and they wanted over $45.00 for this cable.

I compared other cables listed on Amazon and while some were cheaper and some were more expensive, I chose this one from Cables Unlimited from the reviews and the Lifetime Warranty.

I paid for two-day shipping because I needed it right away due to my old computer problems and got it in one day, the cable worked great to transfer all of my data over to my new iMac.

The mac mini only has the newer fw800 connector and I need to use older firewire devices..... This cable solved that problem.
