5.0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised (after some troubleshooting--my bad)
After initial trouble it works great. When I received it, I connected the drive to power and the 40 pin header, then connected the USB. It either worked intermittently or not at all (I heard the USB connection sound then the disconnection sound)
Later after thinking of sending it back, a ran across a review that said to check the jumper settings on the drive...

Cable arrived in fine shape. There were no drivers included although the included instructions made reference to an install disk. Went to the Cables Unlimited web site referenced on the box only to find that the company had gone belly up. Am in the process of returning it for refund. Recommend that you stay away...

This review is from: Cables Unlimited USB 2.0 TO IDE Cable with Power (USB-2100) (Personal Computers)
After initial trouble it works great. When I received it, I connected the drive to power and the 40 pin header, then connected the USB. It either worked intermittently or not at all (I heard the USB connection sound then the disconnection sound)
Later after thinking of sending it back, a ran across a review that said to check the jumper settings on the drive. After changing the setting on the hard drive from cable-select to MASTER (then) it worked without a hitch.

Works well with various hard drives and manufacturers. 6.4G, 10G, 15G, 200G, Seagate, Maxtor, WD. Doesn't seem to recognize smaller 4.3 or 3.2GB drives. Works on Mac OSX.
Was able to use diskmgmt.msc in XP to format and partition drive in different ways FAT32 or NTFS

3.0 out of 5 stars No NTFS Partitions!, November 25, 2005

This USB to IDE cable works, but be aware that it only supports FAT32 partitions. This means that the filesize is limited to 4GB. I bought this to backup and transport ISO files of DVD's which are approx. 4.5GB each. That clearly does not work. I'm still looking for one that does support NTFS partitions...
