This review is from: Cables Unlimited USB to Micro B Cable for Blackberry Storm, Blackberry Bold and BlackberryTour - 2 Meter - Black (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I needed one of these to connect one new camera to the computer.
On this specific cable, everything is done right, including the price. It is USB 2.0 certified, meaning that it supports data transfer rates of up to 480Mbps and, if your device accepts a Micro-B plug, this is the cable to get. Maybe the 2-meter length (6+ ft.) is a little bit too much but it does not bother me a lot and there may come a time when a cable this long may come in handy. I am awarding this item 5 stars for price, quality and, especially, for the very good presentation on Amazon's page. ______________________________________________ Notes: Anyone in the market for a USB cable should be very careful because there are at least 6 kinds of USB connectors. If you are buying a cable that connects 'something' to your computer or laptop, the computer end of the cable will always be a USB-A or 'Type A' connector. At the other end, you may have a USB-B/Type B - a nearly square shaped connector used mostly to deliver power to a device but this is rare. Most likely, you will have a Mini-B or a Micro-B. The difference between the 2 is that the Micro-B is half as thick while the width is the same - Mini-B is 3x7mm while Micro-B is 1.5x7mm. If your device (phone, PDA, camera) is a 'new' one and it's using USB, chances are that they will need a Micro-B connector because the industry seems to be adopting the 'Micro' form factor as its standard. If the above sounds simple, you should keep in mind that some devices require Mini-AB or Micro-AB connectors, also known as USB OTG (OnTheGo) devices. My advice: before ordering any cable, make sure that you clearly understand what type of cable you need. This Amazon listing and most Cables Unlimited listings are most helpful because the Amazon page gives you a visual of what the connectors look like. Whenever in doubt, do some more research.

Bought this to work with a Motorola RAZR2 phone, but it won't connect to it. I compared it to another cable that does work and while the pinout is the same, the contacts on the micro usb side of this cable don't extend as close to the edge of the connector as they do on the other cable that works. It isn't a very big difference, but it's apparently enough to keep this cable from working. May work for other devices, but it doesn't seem to be useful for a RAZR2.

I purchased this with the sole purpose of charging an LG ENV2, and it does that perfectly. It also allows you to sync data or music between the phone and your pc. Cable quality seems fine, no problems.

Nicely Constructed Cable,
This review is from: Cables Unlimited USB to Micro B Cable for Blackberry Storm, Blackberry Bold and BlackberryTour - 2 Meter - Black (Wireless Phone Accessory)
This cable has good quality construction and the connectors fit nicely into any micro usb device. I have utilized it to connect a LG enV2 and Blackberry Storm to a laptop. Both work perfectly every time they are connected.

The Palm Pre will charge and sync over this cable, but be forewarned that the Micro USB end of the cable isn't slim enough to plug into the Palm Touchstone dock.

I was looking for an additional cable to use with my iPhone case, the Mophie Juice Pack Air. It works perfectly connected to my computer, car charger, and wall charger. The iPhone and case charge up without a problem. I have already ordered two more to keep in my car and at work.

Bought one, had trouble and returned it... same problems with the replacement. Both cables disconnected from my Evo/computer very easily without being unplugged. The cable fit loosely and needed to be held in place to stay connected. While I'm not using a Blackberry, a micro USB cable shouldn't be proprietary.

Manufacturer's package said Micro-B cable. Package contained Micro-A cable (rectangular connector), which does not fit. Item is being returned. 5 stars to Amazon for their return policy.

the profile of the USB plug above is NOT a micro B plug. The photo looks like a micro B, but the big graphic of the plug is NOT.

When I ordered this cable, the EnV Touch phone (from Verizon) had only been out a couple of weeks, and none of the other reviewers had yet tested this cable with that phone. And as you can see from other reviews, these Mini-USB cables seem to be very finicky and *not* universally compatible, regardless of size or form factor.
At the same time I got my phone, I also got a Bluetooth headset that included its own charger. The headset charger's cable ended in a connector that looked identical to the one on my phone's charger. Moreover, I was able to use the phone's charger to charge the headset. So I figured the chargers (and cable connectors) must be interchangeable. Wrong! The phone would not allow me to use the headset's charger. The voltage should have matched, and the connector fit just fine, but nevertheless the phone gave me a message about the cable being the wrong kind. That's how I learned about this compatibility mess. (I guess the headset was less finicky -- go figure.) So, bottom line, this cable *does* work with my phone. I hooked it up to my PC and everything worked fine, no error messages. While I was transferring song files, the computer's USB port charged the phone, too. Considering that this cable is at least twice as long as the one that came with the phone, and that it's very inexpensive, it is easy to give it 5 stars. Thanks to the other reviewers who had tried it with earlier EnV models. Based on the information so far, although I couldn't promise it, one might guess that this cable would work with other recent phones from LG, like the EnV 3, or the Versa. Perhaps other customers will give it a try and report here. As for EnV Touch owners, hope this helps! P.S. As of this writing, the Amazon listing has four photographs (which are accurate) and two drawings, one of which does not look correct at all. The drawing looks like yet another type of smallish USB connector, like the one I have on my digital camera -- but that's not at all the same type as the connector on my phone. This cable has a "standard" (PC-size) USB connector at one end, and a really small, phone-size connector at the other end. As noted, the photographs show the tiny connector from various angles, and they are more accurate than the funky drawing. |
