UPDATE:

not long after my purchase of these, Amazon gave a full refund and recommended that I destroy these rather than return them. I put the cables in the trash but not before cutting both items apart multiple times to be sure no poor soul found them in the trash and tried to use them.

the quality of the plug and sockets, and the quality of the wire, is very good. the fact that hot and neutral are reversed is very, very bad. this is NOT UL CERTIFIED. this is very probably illegal and worse than that, dangerous.

if you are plugging in ubiquitous wall warts, cell phone chargers, etc. typical DC things that are not polarized, you'll be fine. if you're plugging in a toaster or any other thing that depends on polarity for safety, not so fine. it seems likely that most people will use this to plug in 2 wall warts at the same time, so no real harm there.

I'm not sure why these are still available for purchase given the obvious illegality and potential for harm, and more importantly the lack of UL sticker. but again some reviewers have said theirs tested fine, so it may be more a matter of which vendor.

original review:

maybe different vendors are shipping different ones. but thanks to the (years!)earlier reviews mentioning about miswiring, I made sure to check mine with a meter before use. turned out both of the ones I received are wired incorrectly.

this is not only dangerous, it most likely violates US law / UL / etc. at best you could likely kill whatever polarized device you plug in. at worst, fire, and...

how hard can it be to get the polarity right?! not just shoddy workmanship but literally dangerous. these are going back for refund.

I hope more people test the ones they receive before using.

I was concerned from reviews that said the wiring was reversed, so I bought one and checked it. It was wired correctly and works great! So I ordered 2 more.

Be careful: This product has the 'neutral' and the 'hot' sides
reversed. Meaning, the receptacle is NOT following the spec
of a normal wiring. This could be very dangerous depending on
what you use this with.

I've checked the wiring when I received it with an ohmmeter, and the terminals are correctly wired on the one I ordered. It works fine for powering up 2 units to one plug as long as you don't exceed the amperage rating of the single plug.

This is a sturdy cable that does exactly what is was meant to do. I hooked this up in a single outlet for my LCD tv and I needed another outlet for a DVD player. By doing this, I didn't have to call an electrician to convert to a double outlet nor have to run a long power strip dangling from the wall. This cable hides behind the wall mounted LCD TV. The cable wires are thick and well made. I would buy this again.

Other reviewers report incorrect "polarity", but I would suggest they check the OUTLET this device is plugged into, to make sure it's not your home wiring.
I Tested this outlet splitter with my 110v. outlet tester and it is wired correctly. (I have tested the polarity of all my homes outlets and they are all code).
There's only one minor detail...the plug requires quite a hard push to seat the plugs & sockets. I thought I was going to break my little outlet tester pushing it in.
There's no need for it to be that tight for the low amperage that these things carry.
Maybe it will loosen up with use, but it's never gonna come unplugged by itself.
Buy one. The price is right and it works great.

We use a lot of products that use transformers and takes up space on a power strip. This helps out by splitting one outlet and letting you plug in 2 transformer powered products. Highly recommended!

High quality, heavy duty, well-made cable. Unlike some of the other reviews the load/neutral lines are correctly oriented on the one I received. If you have any concerns about the polarity of the cable then check it with an ohm meter to take any possible house wiring issues out of the equation. Here is an easy way to check:

1) Plug the male end of the cable into one of the female ends.
2) Connect ohm meter to the other female end and check for continuity between the neutral/load sides. If there is NO continuity then the lines are NOT crossed and that side of the cable is OK. If there is continuity then the lines ARE crossed and you should avoid using the cable.
3) Plug the male end into the other female end and do the same (step 2) check above.

If both sides check out ok (i.e. NO continuity) then the cable is safe to use.
