This review is from: Cables Unlimted ADP5210 PS/2 Mice and Keyboards To USB Port Adapter (Personal Computers)
The adaptor, advertised as "the perfect solution for connecting your input device to other ports on your computer," does not work with a regular PS/2 keyboard connnector and a USB port on a Dell laptop. A customer support person from TigerDirect, which sells them, explained that the stuff they sell is not supposed to work "with those proprietary machines like Dell or Compaq, only with the machines made from scratch." Of course, such nonsense could never be included in the product description. The agent's supervisor said the agent was "incorrect," promised to speak to him and his manager (the possible content of that discussion was not disclosed), and offered a return authorization number, with reimbursement that does not cover the initial shipping. As that shipping cost more than the adaptor ($7.04 vs. $4.99), there is no way to recover the loss.

This item only works with Logitech brand keyboards. From the reviews seems like the buyers have not done the proper research and Amazon description does not state that either.
So, unless you have a Logitech brand keyboard this item will not work for you. Hope this helps those that are still looking

Bought one of these fellers for my laptop to use one of the old IBM 'clicky' type keyboards; no trouble using the keyboard with any computer with a ps/2 connector, but the USB converter is not recoginzed with the Dell.

Same as above, will not work with Dell. Considering Dell's share of the computer market, don't you think Amazon ought to tell us this, even if the manufacturer and the retail store don't? Why doesn't Amazon check these customer ratings and refuse to sell products which get 1 or 2 stars across the board???

I hooked this thing up to my dell 1705 laptop tonight so I could use my nice old keyboard on it. It never worked. Went to amazon and read the comments - seems alot of people have had the same problem. Aparently laptops are not the "normal" pc's that you might make from scratch and have "custom" stuff in them from Dell, Compaq, HP, Gateway, Apple, IBM, Lenovo, among others...
It DOES NOT WORK - DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY - TELL AMAZON TO DITCH THIS.

this is a passive adapter, not a converter (which is why it isnt working for many),

all this thing does is reposition the connection so its compatible with the usb slot on your pc, it does not actively change the signal to make it usb compatible. so it will only work with mice n keyboards that are set up to be used with adapters already -- this usually isnt the case with the devices most people will want this for. you guys want to look for converters, not adapters. for success, id stick with the ones that get high marks in the user reviews.
good luck!

This adaptor would not allow my ps2 keyboard or mouse to work under LINUX (Ubuntu 10.04).

I have a Logitech Internet Keyboard, and this adapter did not worked.
Windows XP recognized that was something in the USB, but could not install any driver or something to make it work. Considering that this adapter is only a connection adapter, without any circuit, there is indeed no sense in having to install a driver. I had to buy another adapter, those ones with connectors for Mouse and Keyboard, as that have a circuit in between. I use only the keyboard connector.

I ordered this device hoping to connect one of my existing PS/2 keyboards to my USB-only laptop. I'm not a neophyte, but unless one knows exactly what "passive" indicates in this context it is impossible to infer the impotence of the product. Spending the four dollars isn't the worst - that's reserved for knowing I should've just driven to the corner superstore and bought a new USB keyboard instead of waiting for this to ship. FAILURE, Amazon.com.
