We use the finest Persian henna, which has been used since ancient times to dye the skin and hair. The leaves are dried and ground into a powder and it is this, mixed with conditioning cocoa butter, which forms the basis of our Cacas.

1.0 out of 5 stars blue hair, September 29, 2010
This review is from: Caca Noir Mama Hair Henna by LUSH (Misc.)
I generally love lush products, but this one has completely ruined my week. I started out with warm brown hair and I followed all of the directions. I kept the heat of the solution consistent as I was applying it, I wrapped it to get more of a reddish tint, and I even did a strand test beforehand which looked promising. What I ended up with was blotchy uneven deep blue spots in my hair, while the rest of my hair remained brown with a slight bluish tint. I decided to give it a couple of days to rest, hoping that the blue color would oxidize to a darker shade, but it didn't. Blue tinged hair is not my thing so I decided to gently try to work it out of my hair. I started playing with solvents and detergents like clarifying shampoos, dish soaps, laundry detergent, deep conditioning treatments, hot oil treatments, olive oil, mayo, vodka, cinnamon, and just about any other suggestion I could find online, and none of these treatments effected any change whatsoever. Next I used two packets of colorfix on my hair in three 20 minute sessions. This kept the brown parts of my hair brown, but turned the previous bluish blackish parts of my hair olive green so that my hair now resembled swamp water or sewage.

After doing some reading about similar indigo disasters, it looks like no one has found an effective way to get the damn stuff out of your hair. So when they say henna and indigo are permanent, they mean you have to grow it out and cut it off to get rid of it. Not at all like the box "permanent" dyes at walgreens where you can strip or bleach the color out. Moral of the story is if you are thinking of using henna or indigo, don't expect to be able to bleach or strip it when your roots start to show, you'll have to do upkeep for years and years. And if by chance something goes horribly wrong, you're totally screwed :(

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful dark hair., September 12, 2010

I absolutely love this product. I have light brown hair and this product turned it a lovely dark brown almost black color. Yes, it is quite an ordeal to prepare. I used a kitchen knife to slice up the blocks of henna. I love this henna as they also add cocoa butter and indigo for color and conditioning. However, henna on it's own has wonderful conditioning properties. I love the end results and will be using this product again.

So, I follow the exact technique, long & arduous job making this "caca", (adequate name btw), tried twice!!! barely got any color after 2 hrs - 1st time, 4 hrs second time, w/ minimal improvement, finaly bought $2.99 henna from Indian store, & finally got the color; Lush Henna -- Your caca noir sucks!!!, will not buy, will not recommend!
