I'm certainly not as enamoured of this CD as I was of the Lully Divertissements CD that I reviewed yesterday, but this is a different style of music -- very gentle and contemplative -- and in its class it is certainly outstanding. Here is a recording by Jordi Savall and Montserrat Figueras from before the time Jordi created his own label, and for Jordi fans (or Caccini lovers) it is certainly something to be added to the collection. The most important thing is that this recording is now available again -- for a couple of bucks -- in the Deutsche Harmonia Mundi 50th Anniversary Edition, which contains 50 very good to great recordings from the label's 50-year history. This is a collection to be acquired by all fans of early music and Baroque, and it should be bought before it becomes extinct.
