5.0 out of 5 stars It's Beautiful and Different, December 30, 2011
This review is from: Cada Da Un Regalo (Audio CD)
Rosi and Brian Amador are friends of mine and there has been no denying of their talent from the very beginning, Rosi as a brilliant singer and Brian as a gifted instrumentalist and composer. Always effective at showcasing the compositions of other Latin artists, this is the album that takes Sol Y Canto down its own path and stakes out its ground with both covers and Brian's original compositions in a healthy mixture of musical styles. At times, this album is almost like a jazz album and other times, its folky heart shines through with flourishes of Mexican brass instrumentation. My very favorite cut is Brian's original "Hasta La Luna" . Other favorites are the Miguel Matamoros song "Beso Discreto" and Victor Jara's "Manifesto". If you are new to Sol Y Canto and Latin folk music, this album is your touchstone. I hope to be hearing several more albums like this one in the coming years.

4.0 out of 5 stars Crossing all Latin Styles in one beautiful album, February 8, 2009
This review is from: Cada Da Un Regalo (Audio CD)
Though the musical aggregation Sol Y Canto (meaning "Sun and Song") consists of six musicians, it's core is Rosi and Brian Amador, who have been playing music together for 24 year, been married for the last 20 years and been the center of the group for 14. Rosi is the lead vocalist and "company manager" while Brian writes many of the songs (8 of the 12 tracks on this album) and plays beautiful guitar, while sometimes joining Rosi on vocals.

The songs here cross all Latin American musical boundaries with songs from Cuba, Argentina, Puerto Rico and Mexico. While Rosi was born in Puerto Rico, Brian was born and raised in America. You'd never know this from the quality of his songs, all sung in Spanish (with English translations included in the CD booklet.)

Tracks like Fantasma ("Ghost") show Brian's beautiful guitar finger work, backing Rosi's lilting vocals. "Guest musicians" expand the group on numbers like "Credo" with Evan Harlan adding his accordion to the mix.
