Great grill!,

This is a fantastic product. Each attachment is well designed and extremely useful, especially the lid which doubles as a pan. I used my grill for the first time today and it was a jiffy to set up. The heat was strong and even and afterwards, the whole thing folds up conveniently into a portable carrying case. Perfect if you don't have a lot of storage space. All the parts felt sturdy and well-made. Definitely a quality grill.

Cooks like a much larger grill!,

I bought this grill for use on a boat after some pretty extensive research. I've finally tried it out for the first time, grilling some hamburgers and hot links. What a pleasant surprise! The grill cooks as it's supposed to. Both burgers and links came out perfect. While there appears to be a slight warmer spot in the middle, it doesn't appear to affect cooking much; there was less heat variation than on my large backyard grill. I think the two layers of metal/air between the flame and food is what really helps create a good heat distribution.
Construction is excellent, and everything is very well thought out. Compared to some of the Coleman and other brands I've looked at in person at retail stores, this one really stands out. The only thing I wish is that they would have a stainless steel version. I would highly recommend this product. One word of advice: don't wrap the heat distribution plate in aluminum foil. I did because I wanted to save on the cleaning step (which I didn't anyway) and some of the aluminum foil melted and stuck to some parts of the grill. Apparently, some of the surfaces get pretty hot!

Extremely well-built, verstile grill that takes outdoor/camping stoves to the next level,

My wife and I tent camp at least a few times a year. And we always have our trusty two propane-burner camp stove along for the trip. It works great for boiling and for pan cooking, and it will probably still have a place on our trips.
The safari chef grill adds a lot of verstility to the old camp stove. It is extremely well-built, you can see it will last for awhile and it is well-designed, and very clever. It sits on three legs and you get one burner. In the 'base' mode you use it as a kettle boiler or for pot cooking. In the 'bbq' mode you get some very good bbq grilling. It also comes with a 2-sided teflon cooking surface that lets you grill on one side and griddle on the other. We had good results using all of the different cooking techniques. However we did get uneven heat even though it has heat deflecting. Finally there is a cover/wok pan. The cover you can use in bbq mode and it worked quite well. We cooked some delicious chicken. It is easy to flip between modes and set up any mode you want. For the most part it is easy to clean except the metal bbq grid does not get all the way clean after its first use. All of the different pieces fit easily in the included carrying case. The one star downgrade is because you have to put handles on the wok and it is extremely hard to do. Forget it if you are an average guy. Need really small hands. They easily could have put these on at the factory. Also downgraded because you have one burner instead of the standard 2 on most camp stoves. Thus it will probably compliment rather than replace camp stoves for most people especially families. This is a really nice product for campers, tailgaters, or picnicers. It does not have a huge surface but should be ok for a family of 4 or so. Recommended.

WE had such high hopes for this Cadac 6541HP Safari Chef Grill when we bought it. Traveling in our fifth wheel we needed something compact and versatile and so many reviews appeared to be positive. Unfortunately, this grill just does not pack the heat punch we were hoping for. The seemingly hot appearance when warming up the grill, is deceiving and disappointing when trying to get a blackened crust on one's steak. They tend to warm slowly and "tan" not blacken. We have tried cooking on the Safari Chef using a 20 lb propane tank and with Coleman propane canisters with equal results. We would not necessarily recommend this particular grill, based on our personal experiences with it.

Jack Of All, Master Of None......,

Neat Idea, but it's a jack of all trades and a master of none. Having the modular system is nice and being able to grill and then use it as a camp stove is a a nice touch. It is fine for cooking eggs and things on the griddle, that part works pretty well. As a BBQ it's not so great. It really takes a long time to get hot and the lid was not designed to seal which I thought was strange. If it's windy, I've found that the wind gets under the lid and keeps the temps too low to cook properly. Also if the wind blows the flame out, with no igniter, you have to pull the thing apart to relight the burner. Thats a real pain. The ability to regulate the flame is pretty much nil, it's a really cheap propane regulator in it and it's either full blast or off, with not much adjustment in between. The carrying bag will also last about a month at best before seams blow out. I know I make it sound like junk but those are the realities of the grill. It's a neat system and I will continue to use it because it's really handy and compact, but for $100 they could have done a little better. I would look elsewhere unless you need the all in one package.

Innovation from South Africa,

That's right, CADAC is the gas company in South Africa. They designed these campstoves for use in the bush, where camping is a cross between car-camping and backpacking the wilderness (except with a 4wd and a tiny tent trailer). The stove is designed to be versatile and convenient, and it hits those two marks exceedingly well. I've mostly used it tailgating for college football games, my friends are always jealous when they see everything I can do with it. It does have difficulty staying lit at the lowest fire, so put something between the fire and your pot and turn the fire up on windy days. I find the little 1lb propane bottles last about 2 hours worth of medium heat grilling (burgers, chicken, etc) or 8 hours of low simmer.
Tip: It can be used as a "food warmer" by setting it up with the griddle pan, just set your pot on that, and you won't burn the beans.

It has lots of capability. The only problem I had was screwing on the propane tank. Doing this requires flipping the stove over and carefully seating the tank and screwing it in with some pressure. It works fine once the tank is in place but this is not as easy as it has been with other propane stoves.
I cooked a great chicken meal and a salmon meal with the stove. Both cooked perfectly.

I purchased this grill as a birthday present for my boyfriend who loves to cook and camp. He had been struggling to efficiently cook certain dishes while we were camping without bringing alot of extra gear. This grill definately does the trick! The nonstick surface is awesome for bacon and eggs and the wok is great for throwing leftovers in for a stir fry. He loves it so much he has started using it at home too!

I have been looking at small portable grills for some time, and I decided on the Cadac Safari Chef, and have no regrets! The set up out of the box is a breeze (though, yes - the Wok handles are a small pain:). All in all, it cooks very well, and the value is great - you can BBQ, grill, griddle, stir fry, cook a stew, boil a teakettle, etc. - all on one device, AND you get the carrying case included. All for around $94! Some of the other grill makers want around $40 just for a carrying case! PFFFT to that, I am very happy with my choice! : )

Great little grill for the money!,

I purchased this stove as a secondary stove for tent camping. It is easily assembled, cooks about anything you could imagine putting on it, from seafood on the beach to biscuits in hunting camp. The only down side is the non-stick on the griddle wears off quickly. I have cooked some awesome meals in the middle of nowhere and right on the side of the road. Thinking of buying another to complete a very serious camp kitchen.
