Junk,
By Bridget (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews

This product is a box o' junk. My son got this for Christmas this year and it is not even worth whatever the person paid for it. The hat fell apart within three days (and he hardly played with it - just wore it on his head a few times) - the metal rim around the hat came undone and now there is a sharp metal point sticking out through the cloth on the hat, which is obviously dangerous. I contacted the company and they have not responded.

Bought this for my son as a Christmas present. I think he was more impressed with the tophat more then actually doing the tricks. A lot of magic tricks in the manual require items from home (ex: handkerchief, quarters....) so this isn't a complete magic kit. Though it seems briefly entertaining so far.

I bought this for my son's 5th birthday. The hat and wand mostly hold his attention. The hat has a hiding space for tricks. My 12 year old was learning how to do the other tricks then teaching my 5 year old so it got all my kids interacting. We laughed and laughed at how cute his show was. The hat is fabric and well made, but you must handle it gently for it to last. I highly recommend.

The items in all Marshall Brodien's magic sets are of great quality. The magic hat is very well made and it's easy to hide even large items inside. The price is also very reasonable compared to other similar sets.

My daughter likes the hat but I worry each time she plays with it that is will fall apart. I will be happy and amazed if it lasts until the magic show in 2 weeks. The outer box was crushed along with the actual package. Packaging was not put together well in the first place. And like the other review, most of the content is junk.

Don't expect much from the tricks that come with it. The hat is very easy to use, works well, and my daughter is very happy with it. A few of the tricks have ripped or broken since CHRISTmas, but I didn't buy it for the extra tricks I wanted the collapsible magicians hat.

I liked it, bought it for my neice. It seemed a little cheap once she opened it, and it seemed like it would break. ALso, the tricks take some time to learn. But she enjoyed it, so it was a winner.

I suppose the price isn't to bad for the quality, but that's not saying much. To "pull a rabbit out of the hat" apparantly you're supposed to put a small sticker into the hat and cover it up with your hand.

We paid $9.99 thinking this would entertain our 4-year-old grandson for an hour or two. Instead, the poor kid ended up listening to me curse at the danged thing all night. The hat itself is in two sections that fall apart any time you try to display the hat and show that it's "empty." The insert that's supposed to hide a small stuffed animal or other object also falls out easily, quickly spoiling any trick you try to do.The "flesh-colored" fake thumb is only flesh colored if you are from certain regions of the Middle East or Asia, if you're Caucasian with a really deep tan, or if you're a very light-skinned African-American. Given that we are all different colors, maybe this should have been transparent? The trick I had the highest hopes for - the disappearing coin - didn't work at all. There's a flat plastic slide in which you insert a coin and make it "disappear" by sliding the box to one side, causing an internal, sliding gadget to whisk the coin to a position that is out-of-sight. Unfortunately, the gadget on mine probably wasn't cut right and it doesn't slide at all. I tried to slice the whole thing open to fix it, but the plastic is too cheap and the whole thing is destroyed now. The one trick that works like a charm is the disappearing card. You place a card into a slim black box, close the lid, and the card disappears. In this instance, a thin black insert falls over the card and completely conceals it. This is a good trick that works just about every time. There's also a magic wand, a dopey little paddle for something or other, some thread (?) and a cardboard candy box that's for some trick I can't figure out. The rest of the stuff (like the stuffed animal) you have to provide yourself. I'd say, if you can get this for $4-5 and not a dime for shipping, it's an OK novelty to entertain small kids. Otherwise, you will probably end up tossing it in the basement for eternity, as we did.

I got this for my son's 6th birthday. I was really surprised at how durable it is. It's actually kind of heavy, and not something my son will destroy in 24 hours. It's a little small for his head, but I think it will provide lots of fun for the next couple of years.
