For the starting cadaver dog handler this book is a must. I recommend it to all my students. It does an excellent job of detailing the scent imprinting training, establishing a readable alert and the advancement of training. Not only does it cover the handling and training of the dog but discusses in depth the handlers responsibilities and information useful to any agency wishing to deploy the cadaver dog. Excellent information in a basic readable form. Not much experience in scent work needed prior to implementing these techniques. A wealth of information.

This is an excellent book! Great for the civilian SAR Dog Handler or a person jutst doing research on the subject.

Tremendous resource book (especially for the Novice and/or Advanced SAR Dog Handler) for trouble shooting Handler/SAR Dog problems and maintaining a training program/profile.

Could also be utilized in conjunction with a qualified/competent instructor.

I found this handbook well written, organized and thorough. A must have for anyone interested or involved in this specialized field of cadaver dog handlers.

Excellent "how to" train book for Cadaver Dogs.

The "information" contained within is first class.

Negative, the books quite expensive - which is OK for a hard bound reference type book of this nature, however when I pay almost $100 including postage for a book I expect good quality printing - and the printing quality is abysmal on the copy I received.

Every 2nd page (i.e. the left hand facing page) was produced on a photocopier machine with a dirty smudged mirror reflector - causing all the type-set to blur and smudge in a line down the center of each and every left facing page!

This has the effect of making every left facing page difficult to read - your eyes have to stop in the middle of every sentence to discern what the intended word is - you can't read it in a flowing normal manner - which gets a little (OK A LOT) tiring after a few pages, and tends to detract from the enjoyment of an otherwise excellent text.

The author is to be commended for his work - the printer should be hung drawn and quartered.

I'd send it back for a replacement if I didn't suspect that every book has this defect! Also i already have the dog i need to train and cannot afford to be without the training manual while I wait for a replacement or it will interfere with the dogs training regimen.

All the same I thought it reflects pretty badly on the printer and Amazon to offer a poor quality book for sale - at least in a local bookshop you can thumb thru and see what your getting ahead of payment time - but sadly this seems to be the way of the future because my local bookstore went bankrupt the other day due to people buying books online thru Amazon!

What ever happened to people taking pride in their work / product?

For what I paid almost $100 should have been in the discount $2 bin out the front of the bookstore as a damaged goods sale price throw out!

I guess that's a 50% score from me in total. Buy it online and print it yourself - you'll save the postage & get a better result than the twats who printed this load of waste paper crap!

Not happy Jan - I guess Lazarus the cadaver dog won't know or care (Named Lazarus coz anyone he finds will get dug up by the forensic anthropologists people, i.e raised from the dead the way biblical Lazarus was by JC)!
