5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly rewarding read; kudos to the author! March 1, 2014
By K. Holt
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
CADE (THE MORGANS OF ROCKY RIDGE), by Margery Scott, is a 41 page (minus front and end matter) novella. Setting: 1861 Colorado. I ADORE the premise....Isabella Morrow is just days away from a wedding to a man she doesn't even like...when fate hands her the perfect escape from this unwanted union. Cade, a boy she went to school with, turns out to be her hero in every sense of the word. I loved watching their youthful affection blossom into romance, their united focus in righting old wrongs bring them together, and the resolution of Cade's revenge come to satisfying results.

The burgeoning romance is believable. The interaction between Cade and Bella makes their physical attraction and emotional connection and not-so-instantaneous love ring true. These two went through an awful lot (past and present) to come together....and they deserve their happy ending. This novella is a stand-alone, though I truly hope to see more in this MORGANS OF ROCKY RIDGE series (must be, given the subtitle, right?). There is room for much more in Cade and Bella's love story....and secondary characters would make premium star characters in future books.

Era-appropriate crime is described (but not seen in action), and kisses ignite passion beyond 'sweet' classification. I label this read PG.

This short story is incredibly well written. It's strong on themes of love and loss, revenge, and the meaning of family. The short story was almost error free (I found a few, but they were very minor). I'm so impressed with the quality and enjoyment factor of Margery Scott's work that I simply must find everything she's ever written and add it to my TBR (to be read) cue.

Highly recommended to fans of historical romance.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fair March 4, 2014

Nice afternoon read. No blood, guts or explicit sex. Kinda like the old John Wayne movies I watched as kid, where the good guys win.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Hot Cowboy January 7, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I was given an advance review copy, and I LOVED it. For such a short book, it is complete. The characters' actions make sense, the love is real. I love Cade. He's willing to become an outlaw, to save Isabella. I won't give too much of the plot away, but I will put this book on my keeper shelf.

2.0 out of 5 stars Forced romance March 31, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This novella felt as if the romance was forced into it. I rather liked the premise but, for me, it didn't live up to the other high marks. Cade won't tell her why he "robs" the stage coach because he doesn't think she'll believe him. He waffles about that, then tells her. See?! She doesn't believe me, then she does and suddenly they have always loved each other - since they were kids. Yet neither one made any effort to do anything about it for 12 years, until he learns about her getting married to a man everyone has heard horrible stuff about for more than a decade (including the TSTL heroine). Didn't hate it but glad it was free.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for a short story March 19, 2014
By Amanda

I'm a fan of short stories and this one was pretty good. Some scenes and conversations could have been elaborated on a bit more, but an enjoyable quick read none the less. Over time, I'll probably pick up the others in the series. As a side note that doesn't reflect the rating whatsoever: For some reason I thought this was a clean read- Looking back the description I have no idea why I thought that, but this is not a squeaky clean novella, if that's what you are looking for.

4.0 out of 5 stars Short and sweet! March 20, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
A lot of ground covered in this novella. It's a great read and you hate to see it end. There are surprises and a happy ending in my favorite era. Do yourself a favor and get lost for awhile in this good story. I will be watching for more from this author. It is clean and contains a good moral to the story. No suggestive scenarios, no curse words and no sexual sceniarios, but plenty of romance. So bury yourself in this short book!

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book is good reading, with it's story line out of the old west. A very fast and easy book to read that will keep you from putting it down ! I really didn't want this story to end. But once you finish this book you will be looking for another book by this author.I would recommend this book to anyone that likes historical romance books and not a lot of detailed mushy stuff. Happy reading !

More About the Author

A transplanted Scot, Margery now divides her time between her home on a lake in Canada and a small house in central Florida.

To Margery, writing in only one genre is like eating only one kind of candy. Boring. A late bloomer, Margery didn't start writing until she found herself with an empty nest, some free time, and an old standard typewriter her father found somewhere she'd rather not think about. She still has the empty nest on a lake far away from the city, but the typewriter has been replaced by a computer and free time is a thing of the past. Margery writes all across the genre board as the muse and the mood hit her, but these days she tends to stick to either historical romance or romantic suspense. When she's not writing or traveling in search of the perfect setting for her next novel, you can usually find her wielding a pair of knitting needles or a pool cue. Margery loves to hear from her readers. You can reach her at margery@margeryscott.com and follow her on Facebook and Twitter.
