Cadence Classics: Their 20 Greatest Hits is a fine Everly Brothers CD that truly gives us twenty great hits--there's not a dud in the bunch! The sound quality is excellent; and I like the artwork as well.

The album starts with "Bye Bye Love;" this early hit for the brothers sounds fresh even today. They harmonize so well; and the guitars really carry the melody along nicely. "I Wonder If I Care As Much" features The Everly Brothers front and center as they sing this tune about a love gone wrong. "I Wonder If I Care As Much" also has a slight country flavor to it that works well for this number. "Wake Up Little Susie" really shines and The Everly Brothers never miss a beat! They sing very well of how a date lasted longer than they promised their parents it would. Great!

"This Little Girl Of Mine" truly gives us an early rock and roll number that really sounds great; the guitar solo is great and I predict that you'll enjoy "This Little Girl Of Mine" very much. "All I Have To Do Is Dream" is a tender love ballad that would make a woman swoon; they sing it THAT well. "All I Have To Do Is Dream" is very well done. "Devoted To You" is another slow ballad perfect for dancing with your sweetheart; they sing this to perfection and the music to accompany them sounds terrific. Listen also for "Love Of My Life:" this has beautiful key changes and The Everly Brothers sing this with all their hearts and souls.

"('Til) I Kissed You" was another major hit for The Everly Brothers and it is certainly a highlight of this album. The guitars sound so great and The Everly Brothers sing sweetly of how they have discovered their true loves. "('Til) I Kissed You" is truly a classic pop vocal as well as an early rock and roll love song. "Let It Be Me" also showcases their fine singing and the melody of very pretty; the strings really enhance the natural beauty of this number.

The album ends with The Everly Brothers performing "When Will I Be Loved." They handle this like the pros they were and I really like this rendition of "When Will I Be Loved."

Overall, this is one CD that fans of The Everly Brothers won't want to pass up. This is also wonderful music for people who enjoy early rock and roll as well as the oldies

5.0 out of 5 stars The Everly's at the peak of their career, May 7, 2000
This review is from: Cadence Classics: Their 20 Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
The Everly Brothers did their very best work on the Cadence label, and this collection puts together their best known cuts and some superb lesser known tracks.

All of the big cross-over hits are here, led by Bye Bye Love, Bird Dog and All I Have to Do is Dream. No one could put the pain of a failed romance into music like the Everly's, be it the eternally hopeful sound of When Will I Be Loved or the agonizingly heart-broken I Wonder If I Care As Much. Still, they weren't afraid to have fun with their music either, and the playfully cute lyrics of Poor Jenny, Problems and I Kissed You help offset the often somber tone of the album.

If you are an avid fan of the Everlys, you will love this collection. If not, you owe it to yourself to discover just how good they really were. Cadence Classics: Their 20 Greatest Hits is just the ticket to do it with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never knew what i missed, January 19, 2004

This review is from: Cadence Classics: Their 20 Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This is an excellent CD featuring 20 of the Everly Brothers best recordings for Cadence Records. There isn't a bad song in the bunch. The only quibble I have is that they could have fit at least 10 more songs on the CD. "Be Bop A-Lula", for instance, is a great song that got left off. Still, 20 songs is more than a lot of Greatest Hits CDs include, so I recommend getting this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great CD collection of music and memories, July 24, 2010

This review is from: Cadence Classics: Their 20 Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This CD is the essential Everly Brothers discography, with all of their hits included as well as some near-misses that should have been chart toppers. "Bye Bye Love" started the duo on the road to stardom and smash hits such as "Wake Up Little Suzie", "All I Have to Do Is Dream", "Bird Dog"/"Devoted to You", "('Til)I Kissed You" and "Cathy's Clown" proved that the brothers were indeed a unique and gifted act and headed for stardom. A great session of hits that brings listeners back to the dawn of rock 'n roll and unforgettable memories.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great original recordings, but a deceptive album title, November 16, 2011

This review is from: Cadence Classics: Their 20 Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
The Everly Brothers/ Cadence Classics Their 20 greatest Hits: Well, there is good news and bad news about this disk. The good news is that these are the original recordings (as there are several collections out there that contain remakes of these songs that the Everly's had to do because of old contractual problems). The Bad news is that a few of their Greatest Hits are not part of this collection (Kathy's Clown being the biggest omission). Now it is true that "Kathy's Clown" was not one of the Cadence recordings, but then Cadence should not have titled this CD "Their 20 greatest hits" without including one of their biggest. As I bought this CD years ago, I realized the omissions and got a second CD that included those missing songs. These days (2011) I really don't know how to advise you as several of the CD's available simply don't tell you which contain the Original Hits and which have remakes. Your just going to have to do a little research to find what you want and where you can get it...the record companies have not made the chore easy. This collection is great, but just a 3 ½ star album because of the omissions and the slightly deceptive album title.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great music from a bygone era, October 4, 2010

The Everly Brothers were an iconic duo that had a huge career in the late 50's and early 60's. Theirs is a sound like no other, the close harmony and driving guitars in their music is special. This disc is really well made and all of the songs sound like I remember them and has all of their hits. I really enjoy putting this on while I'm driving, it really takes me back.
This is a must for anyone who likes the real rock and roll.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great listening for those who remember them, December 10, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Cadence Classics: Their 20 Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
This CD was a good find for me. I have another Rhino Everly Brothers CD that contains what I thought was their best collection. Although it is good and I listen to it very often, I realized there was one song I remembered but didn't have. It was Poor Jenny. So I started looking around and found this CD, and I'm glad I did. Not only is Poor Jenny (although in stero and not the original mono) great to hear again, but so are a couple others I didn't have and had forgotten. As is Poor Jenny, these are B sides that created double sided hits. I Wonder If I care As Much, and Claudette are just as memorable for me as all their other hits.

The tone quality on this CD is excellent, though some are in stereo, they are the originals and come through with a clarity that, along with the harmony and style that is unique to the Everly Brothers, makes every song on this CD very enjoybalbe to listen to. This CD now gives me every Everly's hit I remember, and if you are an Everly Brothers fan, or oldies fan, who is missing some memories like I was, I recommend this CD to fill that void. It is a well done collection from one of the Hall of Fame early rock and roll greats.

4.0 out of 5 stars Some Missing songs, March 27, 2009
This review is from: Cadence Classics: Their 20 Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I love the Everly Bros and I wanted a complete selection of their greatest.
3 songs were missing and I should have researched more carefully. I added "Crying in the Rain", "Walk Right Back" and "Cathy's Clown" to this collection and now it's complete.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Duo/Great Songs, August 23, 1999

Some of the finest songs of the late 50s and early 60s. Their influence can be felt on many important groups which followed them. You may have heard of the Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Young Guitars Great Harmonies=Everlys, March 26, 1999

This review is from: Cadence Classics: Their 20 Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
Cadence was a wonderful label that boasted not only The Everly Brothers, but also Andy Williams, Johnny Tillotson and The Chordettes. Don and Phil were young, good looking and they had enough talent to be superstars. They were and they deserved the applause. I saw them in person at The Orpheum Theatre (It's still there) in downtown Los Angeles in 1957. They had just had their first hit, "Bye Bye Love" and they introduced what would be their second hit, "Wake Up Little Suzie." Both those songs are here on this CD. Also two good comedy rock tunes that are little remembered now, "Poor Jenny" and "Bird Dog." Believe it or not, when "Bird Dog" was popular, Gary Cooper SANG IT on The Jack Benny TV show. Also from one of the Everly Brothers Cadence albums called "Songs Our Daddy Taught Us" is the plaintiff tearjerker "I'm Just Here To Get My Baby Out Of Jail." This is a great album. Tom Willett
