Book Description

Buried deep in a ravine in the picturesque Smoky Mountains is a very dark secret. David Hobbs, vacationing with his wife Miriam, inadvertently stumbles upon a small cloth ‘keepsake’ bag and a broken tooth. A human tooth. Miriam begs David to hand the bag and tooth over to park officials, but he ignores his wife’s pleas and secretly keeps the ‘harmless’ items. The action opens a doorway that had been closed for nearly a hundred years and unleashes hell on earth, or at least hell in the lives of David and Miriam.

Following the brutal murder of his best friend in Denver, and unprovoked attack on his oldest son, David desperately seeks to understand why a mysterious teenage girl has chosen to terrorize him and the males closest to him. To prevent further devastation to his family and end the wanton bloodshed, he returns to the enchanted hills of eastern Tennessee, where a terrible truth awaits discovery... one that forces him to face the consequences for the unpaid sins of his ancestors.

Acclaim for Aiden James:

“Aiden James has written a deeply psychological, gripping tale that keeps the readers hooked from page one.”
—Bookfinds review for THE FORGOTTEN EDEN

“Not only is Aiden James a storyteller par excellence, but his material for his story is riveting.”
—Huntress Reviews

“The hook to this excellent suspense thriller is the twists that will keep readers wondering what is going on as nothing is quite what it seems. Adding to the excitement is that the audience will wonder whether the terror is an evil supernatural creature or an amoral human…Aiden James provides a dark thriller that grips fans from the opening.”
—Harriet Klausner, Amazon’s #1 book reviewer for THE FORGOTTEN EDEN

“Aiden James writing style flows very easily and I found that CADES COVE snowballed into a very gripping tale. Clearly the strengths in the piece were as the spirit's interaction became prevalent with the family… The Indian lore and ceremonies and the flashbacks to Allie Mae's (earthly) demise were very powerful. I think those aspects separated the work from what we've seen before in horror and ghost tales.”
—Evelyn Klebert, author of A GHOST OF A CHANCE and DRAGONFLIES

“Aiden James is insanely talented!”
—J.R. Rain, author of MOON DANCE and THE BODY DEPARTED

4.0 out of 5 stars A Fast Paced Supernatural Novel. I Couldn't Put It Down November 19, 2010
A Kid's Review
Format:Kindle Edition
Well written, engaging characters and fast paced. I couldn't put this one down. In CAVES COVE: A NOVEL OF TERROR, the Hobbs family is a typical, red blooded American family. I found all of the characters easy to identify with which made this family's horrifying ordeal with a sadistic supernatural force even more heart-wrenching. The Hobbs family members themselves all relate well to one another and their family chemistry becomes apparent as the story moves along. David Hobbs' (the patriarch of the Hobbs family) relationships with his best friend Norm and John, the native American friend he makes who helps him overcome the angry spirit who is haunting his family also develops well over the course of the story. Aiden James does a great job of making readers feel the anguish and suffering this family and their friends go through while battling this unsettled spirit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid Ghost Story September 16, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Visiting the Smokie Mountains, Miriam and David Hobbs find a strange souvenir: a little bag labeled "Allie Mae's Treasures" containing various things including a broken tooth. David brings the bag with him home to Colorado, where unexplained sounds, chills and moving objects begin to plague the family. David has nightmares of Allie Mae as the violence escalates, so he takes the bag back to Tennessee in the hopes of placating the spirit.

I found the atmosphere of the story very creepy. As the ghost starts with annoyances then moves to violence you become really fearful for the characters. You really grow to like the Hobbs family and want the ghost to leave them alone! I like that we get actual explanations as to what is going on with the paranormal things and am quite pleased with the ending. A fun book, especially for Halloween!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! October 5, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was a very easy book to read and I couldn't hardly put it down after I started it. It's interesting, has a little romance in it, some historical references to it, as well as some stuff about indians and rituals. It was suspenseful and a real page-turner. I liked it a lot and would recommend it to any one of my friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very scary book! February 18, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I've now read a few Aiden James novels, and although I can tell this is an earlier work from this author as compared to "The Vampires' Last Lover" and "Deadly Night", I found it entertaining. Yes, I saw the grammatical items mentioned by others, but they were not as distracting for me as they were for some readers. Mr. James seems to elicit either strong praise or harsh criticism, based on whether his style and mechanics are a problem for someone or not. I might add that some things recently cited against this author might be too severe, like the inferred statement on a recent review that a water moccasin could not exist in the Smoky Mountains. Yet, in Dollywood amusement park (in nearby Pigeon Forge) a child died from moccasin bites some years back. (I found that story and others dealing with such snakes in eastern Tennessee after taking a quick stroll through Google, for anyone else seeking an objective view).

One last thought is this: I found the high tension toward the end of the novel and the story's resolution very satisfying, after a slower start. It seems the more positive comments come from readers who actually stuck around long enough to find out what a strong read this actually is.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bag of Treasures September 4, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I chose this book after falling in love with Cades Cove this past summer. Near Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg where tourist attractions abound, the cove is a preserved little community nestled within the Smokey Mountain National Park. Quiet, peaceful, and charming, Cades Cove cast such a spell on me that I couldn't resist buying this book by the same name.

The author does justice to the Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Cades Cove area, and he weaves a spooky tale that keeps the reader's rapt attention. The story line is that of a young girl, Allie Mae, whose angry spirit comes to terrorize the Hobbs family after the parents, David and Miriam, have a romantic interlude in a Cades Cove ravine. They find a small bag stitched with "Allie Mae's Treasures" while in the ravine, and despite David's intention of turning it in to the park authorities, he finds himself unable to do so. That's where the "fun" begins.

Allie Mae recognizes David's resemblance to her ruthless attacker, and thus begins to seek revenge on him, his family, and his best friend. Desperate for relief, David returns to the park to personally return Allie Mae's bag, and that's when he meets John, a ranger and Cherokee Indian, and John's granddaughter Evelyn. Knowledgeable about spirits, incantations, herbs, and rituals, John and Evelyn set about to free David from Allie Mae's spirit. Are they successful? You'll have to read the book and find out for yourself.

Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
If you enjoy a good ghost story, this book is for you. Though a little predictabel at times, the characters a likeable and James was able to bring the characters to life so you care about the outcome of the story. A good solid page turner with enough twists to keep you interested to the end and leave you wanting more.
