This book is very informative on the early families of Cades Cove.
There are some very detailed pictures of residents in excellent condition.

I highly recommend the information in this book for anyone doing genealogical research on families from Cades Cove Tennessee.

I have always had a love for this mountain community which disappeared with the coming of the park. Mr. Shields, too, shares that love. He never says much about himself, but it's clear in the telling of his tale that this relation to Carter Shields is deeply involved in his subject. There's not many glossy photographs, and the style is a little rough around the edges, but the book is very informative and does not dwell on "political" issues.

I ordered this book because of family connections. Several years ago I was in TN but at the time did not know about Cade's Cove and the connections there. I do plan to go back and see what other relatives I can dig up.

A good book. I was though hoping for something a little more indepth, but overall a well written and good book. Was an easy read. Just wished it was a more of it.

Enjoyed this book very much. We had just returned from going through Cades Cove and wanted to learn more about it. Very interesting and informative book.

A wonderful, insightful book on the history of this very special place in TN. If you have ever visisted this magical place, then this book will explain a lot about the people who settled the land and what it was like to live there.

I purchased this book at the Cade's Cove welcome center(Cable Mill), and didn't put it down much until I was through reading it. I absolutely love this old community and the history, and Mr. Shield's account was so interesting. I would recommend it to anyone wanting to learn a little more about this pioneering community.
