Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I thought I was taking a real risk buying this bike. Though it has the Cadillac brand name on it, it is actually made by Kent bicycles in Taiwan. I don't know a whole lot about Kent except I remember the bike I bought for my toddler 8 years ago at Target was Kent. A bit dicey. But I decided to take the risk because of several factors: 1) It has some high-end components, 2) At 32 pounds it is relatively light for a full-suspension bike, 3) I trust that Cadillac won't try to sell a mountain bike for $2500 (the original list price) if it is total junk, and 4) For only $950 I can't go wrong. The parts alone are worth that.
I remained skeptical when it finally arrived in a box and I had to put it together. Neither the front shocks nor the rear had lockouts. It took me a couple of hours to get it all together and EVERYTHING needed to be adjusted and tightened. By the time I got it together it was too late to ride. But today I took it out for my first ride and boy- howdy! Fantastic. It climbed like a mountain goat and stopped on a dime. None of the bouncing that I had feared (full -suspension bikes do that sometimes.) And downhill was a dream. It controlled beautifully. I felt in absolute control and had no hesitation to go fast, take jumps, and generally ride much more aggressively than I normally would. All in all I am more than satisfied. I am ecstatic. Now if I could just scrape off that Cadillac logo (it is painted on... bummer.)

Bought at costco.com on sale at $750, and I received this bike in a box few weeks ago, put together in 30 min, yet I found the bike needs some tune up and called Cadillac. Customer service rep Augusto was great providing all help needed, and even offer to pay 50% for me to bring to REI for professional tune up.
Upon my first ride, I notice how well built this bike is. XT derailer provides precision gear shifting, and the bike is strong as well as agile. Weight is properly distributed, and as for a full suspension bike, this is light. Very easy to maneuver and perform tricks like jump or quick turns. Glad that I researched before buying this one. This bike built and quality is equivalent to those priced at $1500 if were Specialized, Giant, Trek.... branded. Would recommend this bike to bikers of all levels.

I've had my AM2.7 for over a year now. After a few hundred miles of mostly single track trails in Michigan woods, not much has gone wrong with the bike. I have only had to do normal maintenance (cable replacements, new chain, etc.).
I've got the thing pretty much tuned for me and the way I ride. I don't think you can come close to this kind of deal for under $1000. I like the Cadillac logo, seat stitching and decals - I'm a GM employee.

I bought the 18in model for $698 from Amazon - and at that price it was a good deal. I have just put 3 hours on the bike last weekend.
pros - price, gear, shock, weight (#34) cons - name on bike, tires (cheap), self assembly and gear/cable adjustments required - or take to your LBS. all in all it was a good deal for me - I am amused by the variability at Amazon in price. For $1100 - I would look at the Mongoose line for even less. |
