5.0 out of 5 stars They made a Statement, January 27, 2010
This review is from: Cadillac (Hardcover)
Amazon has over a hundred books with Cadillac in the title. Of those that are aimed at auto fans and pictorially oriented I doubt there is one that looks as cool as Salmieri's title. That's not to say that it's really stunning but more to say that transport publishers tend to produce really dull looking titles. This book was put out by art publisher Rizzoli so that at least assures buyers that the editoral will be handled in a creative way.

First off, it's a big book, just over fourteen inches wide though there is only one photo that stretches to twenty-eight plus inches. The rest are one to a page and mostly over twelve inches wide. Owen Edwards text is always on the left-hand pages. What I liked about the book (apart from the close-out price I paid) is the hand-color work by Salmieri's wife Sydne Michelle. They obviously look hand-done but beautifully so. On page seventy-five a 1956 Sedan, pretty near the end of life in a junkyard and it looks amazing.

The other nice thing is the lack of custom versions, you know, where someone made a 1958 Fleetwood into a camper (photo on page fifty-seven) or painted silly retro graphics along the sides. There a very few of this sort of nonsense because Salmieri has concentrated on the real thing. Not too many pre-1935 but that's only to be expected and really, though, I think the name Cadillac suggests the flamboyant style of the Fifties models onward.

Originally published in 1985 and priced at $50 (which seems lot to me back then). The design is fine as is the matt art paper and printing with a 175 screen. If you like Caddies and want to see some good expressive photos, though nothing outlandish, about your favorite car search out a bargain copy on the net.
