An ideal reference and guide for anyone finding themselves in Venice,
By Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Café Life Venice: A Guidebook to the Cafés and Bacari of Le Serenissima (Paperback)
One of the true pleasures of vacationing in another country is the sampling of their cafes, restaurants, and coffee houses. Nowhere is this truer than with the street cafes of Venice. Enhanced throughout with both color and black/white photography by Roger Paperno, "Cafe Life Venice: A Guidebook to the Cafes and Bacari of Le Serenissima" is an informed and informative guide to the cafes by Joe Wolff who offers illustrative and descriptive anecdotal commentaries and interviews showcasing and highlighting the best that Venice has to offer the tourist, traveler, or native resident. "Cafe Life Venice" is an ideal reference and guide for anyone finding themselves in Venice whether it be for an long weekend or an extended vacation anytime of the year.

Cafe Life Venice helps you to locate the real Venice hidden beneath the bad food and throngs of tourists that in the summer can make the city feel like Disneyland.
Joe Wolff not only shows you the best places to eat and drink but introduces you to their owners. Their stories are intertwined with some of the history of this remarkable city and accompanied by Roger Paperno's beautiful photographs. This book is a must for anyone visiting Venice and reading it makes you want to hop on that plane right now.

I found this book disappointing. It's slick and attractive looking but, for my taste, there's way too little about the food of the establishments and way too much gossip about the owners. Who cares? I'm interested in eating well and reasonably.
