Sublime,
By Charles Ryder (Tokyo) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Café del Mar, Vol. 9 (Audio CD)
This is chill music for the soul, music to live by. One beautiful track after another. It has played non-stop on my various CD players since I got it 5 months ago...and I am not even close to growing tired of it. Rather, it has become like oxygen. I can't live without.Every CD in the del Mar series is worth its weight in gold, but this one can be weighted with a far more precious metal. I would need to be a poet to say more about this wonderful compilation. But I must mention track 5: it is a highlight among bright stars. Never have I heard such smooth and darkly elegant guitar work, all of course backed by a first-class chill groove. Plug your soul into this CD...you will be transported to a lovely place.

This is an excellent CD. Every song belongs on the disc (except
"time is the enemy" by Quantic, although an excellent song, it is too upbeat for this CD and could have been replaced by something from the Knighthawks. This song can be found also on Private Lounge 3, of which I own, and the song by Quantic was a purchasing point for me to buy the CD, so don't take this opinion in the wrong way or out of context.). All of these songs keep a tight knit from one song to the other - this has made it into my top 3 CD's out of 50 something. If you like this album, or haven't purchased it, you should check out some albums by Praful at the same time, you're sure to enjoy. Again, this is a great disc.

Pleasant but not not strong enough to recoup the glory days,
By
This review is from: Café del Mar, Vol. 9 (Audio CD)
Cafe del Mar's compilations became well-known for their luscious rhythm, that seem to climax in the middle of the CD then taper down again to slow beats. In my reviews of the previous albums, I mentioned that Jose Padilla did this marvellously. It always seems like starting a day and finishing it perfectly when I listen to his compilations: slow songs at first, then build up to dancey tunes, then slowly, without losing the beat, close off the CD with a nice and warm slow finale. However, after DJ Bruno took over from Volumen Siete (7) onwards, it seems that he could not successfully carry on this flavour. Volumen Nueve is similar to Volumen 7 and 8; if the album is also likened to a 'day', it fails to wake up and pick up: it says moody, slow and brooding. Don't get me wrong, I love leisurely-paced songs as well, but after a while when I need a pick-me-up with faster songs, the album stays on its slow path until it's too late (the first track with a more pronounced beat only starts with #6 - The Cure (Miro). However, even track#6 is still not enough to pick up the mood, because the mood is still rather sombre, even if Track#7 is bouncier - and that's already half of the CD. All in all, the album is pleasant, but it cannot recoup Cafe del Mar's glory days under Jose Padilla. Bruno probably hates having his style being compared to Jose Padilla's, but the thing is, Jose Padilla's style is one of the key thing why Cafe del Mar albums are so popular in the first place!

Must buy for any CDM fan,

Bruno does it again....I'm so tired of hearing how Bruno is trying to follow in Padilla's footsteps by taking over resident dj at CDM. Bruno has his own flavor , and it surely reflects on his last CDM compilations. Volumen 9 is in my top two cafe del mar compilations ....the first being volumen 7.....also compiled by Bruno.Number 10, Time is the enemy by Quantic has got to be my favorite track on this album. This compilation will make you dream.......by the way Vive La France

Bruno's best yet- this time with the organic melting-sunset feeling which (until now) only Padilla was able to capture in the earlier volumes. includes a low budget film (MAC/WIN compatible) separately on the disc. my faves are: This compilation is the slowest of all the Volumes, in my opinion.

Waited long enough for vol.5 beater,

Never thought that there would be a challenger for CDM vol.5, which in my opinion is the best of the series, compiled by Jose Padilla. But now, yes, seems we have a new king here. Atmospheric, it simply takes you by surprise from the first time you hear it - and that's essential for such albums, you either love it or let it just be in yous CD storage tower. One of the best remixes i've heard is the title "Morning Light". I knew the dance version of this one and it's cool, but this remix is awsome... Lovers all over the globe, here's one winner for this summer. Enjoy as I do Cheers

"Café Del Mar, Vol. 9" is a calming collection of 14 songs that are very relaxing and uplifting. These musical tracks contain elements that combine the chill-out and electronica musical genres. My overall favorite song on this collection is "The Cure" because the singer of this song has beautiful vocals. In addition, "The Cure" seems to be about wanting to experience the blessing of peace in all areas of one's life. The musical track "Troya" has a carefully crafted harmonious blend of songs. "Café Del Mar Vol. 9 is great for anyone who enjoys the blend of electronica and chill-out music.

I own almost every Cafe Del Mar - and this has to be one of their best yet! More low tempo chill out than someof their others. Creative mix of Spanish and French vocals and some without vocals. Great driving music, or background dinner party music. So relaxing ---but not too much. would make a great gift to introduce someone to this type of music.
