5.0 out of 5 stars Simply put - the best dark roast I've had
I received this as a gift. I love dark roasted strong bodied coffee. That's the only kind of coffee I drink. My first cup was brewed in a small french press. The aroma was succulent. It didn't have the acidic aroma some compare to cat urine (my wife, a non-coffee drinker). The smell was potent, in a good way. It filled the whole downstairs with the small 2 cup press...

3.0 out of 5 stars Coffee was really good until the batches got bitter-tasting
My wife and I ordered this coffee several times until July 2011 when the batches started tasting bitter. We really enjoy dark roasts with strong, robust flavors in the morning, so when I saw this coffee, we decided to try it out. Some initial bags were quite good but got somewhat bitter as new bags were delivered monthly. We stopped delivery after a really bitter...

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply put - the best dark roast I've had, December 16, 2009

The taste was something delightful. Very bold in flavor with zero acidic flavor that I have grown accustom to with other dark roasts. There is a great nutty or woody background flavor with this coffee. Add a touch of cream to really bring out the nutty overtones. I have always been a Colmbian fanatic until I tried Café Altura's Peruvian Dark. Though this is beyond my regular budget. I will get it occasionally for a treat.

This coffee is fantastic. Great, bold flavor with very oily beans. This is the first Altura coffee I have tried, but I will definitely be going back and trying the different types of beans they offer. Can't go wrong with the Peruvian dark.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great coffee when fresh, May 16, 2010

This coffee is one of my favorites especially when the bag is freshly opened; however, it takes a while to go through two pounds of coffee. It looses some of the flavor over time, but regardless it remains pretty darn good. I just wish I could find a way to keep it really fresh. I have tried freezing it in an airtight zip-lock bag, refrigerating in an airtight zip-lock bag, and storing at room temp in an ceramic airtight jar. Regardless, this coffee is a amazing (especially when brewed with a french press), and I highly recommend it.

This was a shot in the dark but I liked the description and the price so thought I would try it.This coffee is full and rich. It gives me a little acid stomach if I drink too much, but I will buy from this company again and try a milder one. The flavor is so good.

4.0 out of 5 stars nice smooth flavor, March 7, 2010

A very good flavor and no bitterness at all. This is the first organic grown coffee I have tried. I usually buy Starbucks Sumatran or expresso beans, but thought I would try something new. I was not disappointed! I have bought the Sumatran version of this organic coffee and was even more pleased with it. Nice earthy flavor without bitterness.

my husband and I have been drinking this coffee for about a year. It's full bodied and rich. And amazon's subscribe and save program makes it very affordable. Plus, we never run out of coffee!

Ok if you like very mild coffee, please dont bother. But if you like a cup that is going to jump start your braincells in the morning, try it. Next week Amazon is going to send me the 5th batch of this (I subscribe) and just in time too. I use my Rancilio to make 2 double's before I go to the office in the morning and it is very good. Not as burned as Starbucks but has a kick to it.

This is a good, well rounded java that has a nice smoothness. The flavor is okay, but not really distinctive. I would buy it again, especially to mix with a medium roast, which is what I am doing now.

We've tried many of the other Cafe Altura coffees, but this one is our favorite. It's a darker coffee with a very smooth flavor. It's also very easy on my stomach and doesn't seem to be as acidic as other dark coffees. I've added this one to my Subscribe & Save list to be delivered every month!

This is a very good cup of coffee for those seeking a French Roast. It is full-bodied, slightly dark but not bitter or burnt. I have been searching for a good french roast and tried several Cafe Altura varieties and found this one to be my favorite. Very satisfying coffee, even better than the Cafe Altura's Sumatran.
