4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Down Beat and Ambient Mix of Music
First off: Please ignore the last review. They were looking for Energy 52's "Cafe Del Mar" (a high energy Trance record on the Hooj label)...not even close...

What a great record! I already had owned Volume 2,4,5,6 and still needed 1 and 3 to complete my set. To be honest, I was a bit hesitant in getting vol.3 since it was the only one of the Cafe Del Mar...

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Down Beat and Ambient Mix of Music, February 24, 2000

First off: Please ignore the last review. They were looking for Energy 52's "Cafe Del Mar" (a high energy Trance record on the Hooj label)...not even close...

What a great record! I already had owned Volume 2,4,5,6 and still needed 1 and 3 to complete my set. To be honest, I was a bit hesitant in getting vol.3 since it was the only one of the Cafe Del Mar series to be "domesticated" in the U.S. which normally means bad things. When I put this CD in for the first time I was just blown away at the beauty on this disc. Out of all the Cafe Del Mar series, this one has the smoothest blend of music. It is not as upbeat as 5 or 6 but it is more consistent and flows well. The first four tracks are a very relaxing set of ambient/balearic tunes that really elevate the listener. These tracks are not only relaxing but are very beautiful and deeply satisfying. I personally love Nova Nova's "Tones" (Track 2). It is a piano solo that moves in and out with sweeping emotion. Pat Meheny follows next with a nice island/flamenco/guitar track that really takes you away. Miro's earlier paradise, a slower more "enigma-esque" groove follows and brings beats into the picture so that others can follow while still maintaining that pensive, relaxed mood. Jose Padilla has weaved a web of magic on this disc that can only be "Cafe del Mar". I am continually amazed by Jose's eclectic taste in music. If you haven't bought any of the series, try this one if you'd like a mellow introduction to the series, or volume 5 or 6 for a more upbeat set. Really, they're all amazing and this is the ONLY compilation series I have ever heard such consistency on. Worth the heavy price tag for the rest of them. So here's my order of the whole series: 5,6,3,4,2,1.

This CD was mentioned in an article about a celebrity, on a list of "favorite things". That intrigued me enough to listen to the sound bytes, and then, to buy it. Very calming music. I love it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Top compilation, December 26, 2007
I'm amazed that this is the first review, as this is a great compilation. To me this vol 3 along with vol 7 is the best of the cafe del mar series. Easy listening and a harmonious mix with some piano music a la cafe style, some light techno, a few dance tracks, some ambient and some jazzy tunes. Uplifting and worth listening to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fabulous, February 24, 2000
This review is from: Cafe Del Mar 3: Ibiza (Audio CD)
When in Paris I discovered the compilations by Jose Padilla consisting of the various artists. I am overwhelmed with this musics ability to spiritually revive and heal my heart and mind. An international flavor bursting with intense vibes and strong rythmic potions to spurn all levels of consciousness. Cafe Del Mar CD's are medicine for the soul. Thank you!

4.0 out of 5 stars Takes you a gentle walk through tranquility, March 13, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Cafe Del Mar 3 (Audio CD)
From the opening track, this Cd explores many diverse styles, never once losing its ability to tranqualize, and all this without falling into the trap of the most vacuous of musical styles - "new age". YOU too will patently NEED a CD like this - after "one of those days"!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Re-Release Bonus Tracks Make No Improvements Over The 1996 Original, September 9, 2007

CloudMan (Vancouver, BC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cafe Del Mar 3 (Audio CD)
For reasons I can't explain, volume 3 of the Cafe del Mar series has been released, and re-released more times in the US than any other volume. The original (which is almost impossible to find) consisted of 11 tracks and was first released in 1996 with a different album cover. All copies now in print have the extra 2 "bonus" tracks (track 10 - "Redemption Songs", and track 13 - "The Last Picture Show"). Personally, I could have done without both of them, especially "Redemption Songs", now the album's only dud. Despite these two rating-lowering additions, the third volume of the Cafe Del Mar series is a worthy addition to the music libraries of ambient/chillout compilation fans and should not be missed.

4/5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smooth sounds of the balearen island IBIZA, September 12, 1998

This review is from: Cafe Del Mar 3 (Audio CD)
Like the other two Cafe del Mar CDs it is another dream of balearic sounds. Different kinds of nice and soft Ambient music will give you the feeling of sitting at sunsettime on the terrace of Cafe del Mar...
