Elsewhere, Levitation's "More Than Ever People" is pure orange sunsets on shimmering waves, the warmth of its backbeat adding sensuality, while the retro-disco of French act Ame Strong's "Tout Est Bleu" has the rounded curves of bottom-end as opposed to the sharpened corner of dancefloor disco. Overall, the way to enjoy Volume 5 is to adhere to cliché No. 177 (the sum is stronger than individual parts), dim the lights, find some romantic company, and let the music do the talking. --Steffan Chirazi

Good, but too Rhumba-delic,

This volume stands out a bit from the ones I already have as a deviation from the electronica/ambient/cool tone of the others. Although volume 5 is solid and enjoyable it is NOT a typical Cafe Del Mar CD. The music is more lively and danceable with plenty of rhumba-delic beats. This is not a bad thing, but is not what I expected either.Do NOT buy this volume if you want more of what is on 6 & 7: cool, calm, electronica/ambient music. DO buy this volume if you'd like some light, well-crafted breezy music best for brunch backgrounds or dancing in the living room on a Sunday afternoon with your honey.

NOON TRAIN REVIEW,
By "noontrain" (Raleigh, NC) - See all my reviews
This review is from: VOL. 5-CAFE DEL MAR (Audio CD)
As an experienced listener in the chill category let me categoricly state in the simplist terms, this album is a must have. It should be your first purchase in this category. It is by far the best in the series and caters to a wide audience. I own a hair salon and play acid jazz always. This album gets more feedback then any i've ever heard before. I should get a commission for how many people that have bought it as a result of my salon. There is no bad situation for this cd. The volume you play it at depends on your mood. You could literaly jam in your car until your rear-view rattles off or have a dinner party with your parents boss best friend and high school science teacher and it would be a hit. You can't go wrong.

Well,I'm not an expert in "chill music",I'm just starting to explore it,but this cd has the quality of reminding me of a vacation I had when I was a teenager, were everything was sofisticated, wordly, charming,we would spend all day at the beach, chill out at sunset, and then spend all night in hot spots and cool nightclubs. When I listen to this cd and close my eyes,I can see my self on a beautiful beach, having a great time, and I think that sometimes, that's more than enough to make a cd worth it's price, when you can be transported to a great place and relax a little, without leaving your place beside your stereo!!. I recommend speacially the songs "Talking with myself '98" and "Transfatty acid".
