5.0 out of 5 stars NOON TRAIN REVIEW
As an experienced listener in the chill category let me categoricly state in the simplist terms, this album is a must have. It should be your first purchase in this category. It is by far the best in the series and caters to a wide audience. I own a hair salon and play acid jazz always. This album gets more feedback then any i've ever heard before. I should get a...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but too Rhumba-delic
This volume stands out a bit from the ones I already have as a deviation from the electronica/ambient/cool tone of the others. Although volume 5 is solid and enjoyable it is NOT a typical Cafe Del Mar CD. The music is more lively and danceable with plenty of rhumba-delic beats. This is not a bad thing, but is not what I expected either.
Do NOT buy this volume if you...

Do NOT buy this volume if you want more of what is on 6 & 7: cool, calm, electronica/ambient music.
DO buy this volume if you'd like some light, well-crafted breezy music best for brunch backgrounds or dancing in the living room on a Sunday afternoon with your honey.

I should get a commission for how many people that have bought it as a result of my salon. There is no bad situation for this cd. The volume you play it at depends on your mood. You could literaly jam in your car until your rear-view rattles off or have a dinner party with your parents boss best friend and high school science teacher and it would be a hit. You can't go wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars So rich and full of color, October 16, 2001

Well,I'm not an expert in "chill music",I'm just starting to explore it,but this cd has the quality of reminding me of a vacation I had when I was a teenager, were everything was sofisticated, wordly, charming,we would spend all day at the beach, chill out at sunset, and then spend all night in hot spots and cool nightclubs.
When I listen to this cd and close my eyes,I can see my self on a beautiful beach, having a great time, and I think that sometimes, that's more than enough to make a cd worth it's price, when you can be transported to a great place and relax a little, without leaving your place beside your stereo!!.
I recommend speacially the songs "Talking with myself '98" and "Transfatty acid".

5.0 out of 5 stars A Modern Elixer to Soothe Your Ancient Soul, January 21, 2001
By

The music is soft and layered, the rhythms are mid-tempo to downbeat. This album sounds pastel - like a watercolor masterpeice painted with sound. This is not the thundering electronica of the Rave. Instead, it is more like a sunny day on a lonely beach, where life moves on at a more natural pace. The music compiled by Jose Padilla on this album represents the best that Ambient/Trip-Hop/Electronica has to offer. Melodic, entrancing and trippy. This collection is an absolute must if you are at all into this kind of music. If you aren't into this kind of music, you will be. This is my first Cafe Del Mar CD and it has inspired me to buy more. Heck, I'll probably get them all

5.0 out of 5 stars soft chilling, December 13, 2002

Great music to unwind to on a weekend day. I own most of the Del Mar series and Volumes 3,4 and 5 are where its at. Takes me back to the poolside bars in the Greek Islands where I was first introduced to this series.

I accidentally came accross 'Cafe Del Mar' here and I've been listening to it again and again. From the atmospheric opening tunes of Mumbai Theme Tune, to the reminiscent last notes of Wim Merten's "Close Cover", this CD is a must for all smooth jazz, funk, and ambient music lovers. This CD is perfect to accompany a good book with a cup of coffee, or to serenade you as you sweat away the numbers at work!

I'm very determined to get the previous volumes and the future ones!

5.0 out of 5 stars Most incredible CD of my life, June 14, 2005

This review is from: Cafe Del Mar 5 (Audio CD)
I was introduced to this CD by a beautiful german girl from Berlin. She told me this CD was her absolute favorite so I had to hear it for myself.

At first I thought this CD was only marginally good as it was my first exposure to chillout and house music. After listening to this CD just a few times some songs really started to grow on me, especially the upbeat "More than ever people" and jazzy "Tout Est Bleu" by Ame Strong.

Very quickly I was hooked on this CD. I would say 12 of the 15 songs are amazing.

Because of the wide variety of songs on this CD it's almost as if you are on an emotional roller coaster ride. From the very first song you are strapped in for an adventure and then taken to great heights with giant drops, sharp turns and wild loop de loops. After all the thrills this CD ends with a smooth and peaceful tune "Close Cover" that takes you to a gentle finish.

After listening to this CD you feel emotionally exhausted, but in a good, relaxing kind of way. I have never heard a CD with this much intensity in my life. Some songs remind me of chilling out with friends, some songs remind me of tender moments with someone special and some songs remind me of very sad and lonely times.....all these emotions in one CD.

I have two of these CD's with me at all times. One for my home and one for my car. I highly recommend this CD as it is perfect for long drives, sharing special moments with special people or just listening to at night as you fall asleep.

I still listen to this CD everyday. I love it that much. If you buy it, make sure you give it a chance and hopefully it will bring you much happiness.

Cafe Del Mar is a perfect collection of songs to put you in a relaxed mood. Beautiful music and voice will pour from your speakers. I like to crank up my Cafe when I want to get into a sexy mood or just to unwind when I am stressed out. Also great dinner music. A flavoeful taste of european night life.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of my absolute favourites, December 28, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: VOL. 5-CAFE DEL MAR (Audio CD)
Whereas the entire series of Café del Mar CDs is very good, volume 5 is by far the best of all. Its soft tunes will transform anywhere you listen to it in a perfect chill out (even if you're hearing it on your diskman in the bus to work). Some of the songs are amazing (like Negresses Vertes' "Face a la mer"). If you can't manage to make it to a health spa, buy this record!
