5.0 out of 5 stars The Best in the entire collection
Cafe Del Mar 4 (Volumen Cuatro) is by far my favorite. I have all the volumes to date, from 1 to 11, but was missing Volume 4, which I just picked up. I LOVE this CD!! Don't get me wrong, all the other Cafe Del Mar volumes are fair to good, with maybe 1 or 2 or 3 very good tracks on each of them. Despite these gems, most of the newer volumes (especially from Vol. 9...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the best CD of all the volumes
Well, this volume of Cafe Del Mar is pretty bad, the only good songs are:
Jose Padilla - Que Bonito
John Martyn - Sunshines Better
Chicane - Offshore (Ambient Mix)
Karen Ramirez - Troubled Girl (Spanish Version)
If you can only afford one CD, I will recommend "Cafe Del Mar Volume 9 or Volume 8", but not this one.

9 onward) tend to sound monotous--you know, the same beat, the same rhythm, the same "sound". But in Volume 4, every song has something new, different, and exciting to offer--and I just can't say that that is true with the other volumes. Volume 4 is the best ecclectic fusion of electronica, jazz, midtempo, and lounge of the bunch. Very cosmo!

5.0 out of 5 stars One of best titles in the Cafe Del Mar series, August 23, 2002

I simply love this CD, especially the song "Grillos" by Paco Fernandez. Listen carefully to the cricket noises in the background, the wonderful child's voice, and the beautiful work done by a true artist. I've been unsuccesful in finding solo work by Paco Fernandez, but I'll keep looking.

This CD does not have a bad cut and purists may hate that some songs became too well known. In this case the popularity of some songs came because they are awesome, not because of external marketing factors. You must own this CD!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Again, this is the best of the collection, October 6, 2005

I normally wouldn't submit a review just to say "I totally agree with everything that he just said". Except in this case. I really enjoy the Cafe Del Mar collection even though many complain that the series is overproduced, too commercial, and generally not the best chill. This is not the time to seek to debunk those reviews. I just finished my collection of volumes 1-9 and wholeheartedly agree that this is the best of all. Volumes 1-2 have some good tracks, but the track flow lacks continuity in tempo and vibe. Volume 3 is closer but it is only in Volume 4 that Jose Padilla gets the full-on chill groove perfectly. Later cds are hit or miss (Volume 9 is back on track!). My two cents.

Music to relax to on a weekend day. I own most of the Del Mar series and Volume 3,4 and 5 are where its at. Takes me back to poolside bars in the Greek Islands where this music just chills you out.

ever since i got a player, my life has gone through rows of music which came and left, but this one remains. it's a brilliant piece of composition that serenades me to sleep. it's not awful that it puts me to sleep, but it has the gentle melodious tunes that massages me and carry me to another world of dreams. On other occasions, you can play it when you feel like chilling out, reading a book, with or without friends.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definitely One of the Strongest Albums in the Series, August 14, 2007

Completely dud-free and a good host of tracks make up this fourth album of the Cafe del Mar series. Despite its original release date being a decade ago, the album is fairly timeless as all good chillout albums should be. If you missed this one previously, I would still recommend getting your hands on the re-release. A worthy addition to music libraries of chillout/ambient electronica fans.

4/5 stars.

Volume #4 was my first introduction to the Cafe Del Mar series. While I've gradually acquired other titles in this line I have to say that Its the one that best soothes my frayed and tired nerves at the end of the day. Some tunes will literally have you crying out, "Take me away"!.... Ahhhhh... A nice cafe by the beach with some cold ones to sip while feeling the breeze and enjoying a glorious sunset. That in a nutshell keeps me coming back to this release.

5.0 out of 5 stars When the Café Del Mar series rose to world class status - CD 4, May 13, 2011
This review is from: Cafe Del Mar 4 (Audio CD)
From being an underground, quietly whispered secret of wonderful music it was time to bring the rest of the world to the table and that's what Café Del Mar 4 did with its superlative collection from obscure Wasis Diop to old jazz sleeper Street Tattoo by Stan Getz - this CD exploded the Lounge, Chill Out genre of music into the mainstream awareness. Massive Attack and Madonna both spoke of this CD as breaking ground, Madonna turned to William Orbit to produce her next album and the Café Del Mar revolution went global for the first time. Now 15 years since its release and still a benchmark collection that deserves your interest if you are thinking of buying a great album - you won't be disappointed.
