5.0 out of 5 stars the Best ever!!
Cafe Del Mar has always been one of my favorite series, and I think it's fantastic that 11 volumes later, it actually gets BETTER. You won't find any songs that just seem like track fillers, every one is better than the last!

Also, every song seems to have a 3D feel to it (that's the best I can describe it) it's not exactly surround, but kinda. I'm not sure if they...

3.0 out of 5 stars Too many vocals
I'm a fan of the Cafe del Mar series and love it for its atmospheric internationalism. I find that most vocals, though, bring the music too much into the foreground. Or, perhaps my taste is just shifting away from CdM...

5.0 out of 5 stars the Best ever!!, July 12, 2004

Cafe Del Mar has always been one of my favorite series, and I think it's fantastic that 11 volumes later, it actually gets BETTER. You won't find any songs that just seem like track fillers, every one is better than the last!

Also, every song seems to have a 3D feel to it (that's the best I can describe it) it's not exactly surround, but kinda. I'm not sure if they digitally enhanced it, or if it's just the type of music, but it doesn't just surround you.. it like, goes into you. It feels thick enough to grab it, something I've never experienced with music before, but oh my goodness it's great.

But let's talk about the tracks. We have a couple of the ever-so-famous hypnotic sax to a background of seductive beat, those are always my favorite. Then there's your piano symphonies with a dust of bass and angelic singing. Your lucious harpsicords and synthy sounding ones, too..almost all, of course, to a seductive beat.

Really, there isn't a better Chill Out series out there, Hed Kandi's Winter Chill comes close, but this album really proves who's boss in the Chillin' World.

4.0 out of 5 stars Different but great, November 1, 2004
This review is from: Cafe Del Mar Volumen Once (Audio CD)
Volume Once (Spanish for eleven) departs from the passionate electro-ibiza-bossa-beat of previous volumes in favor of cool, expansive, grandeur-mellow sounds(think Enigma).

Still Groovy, still Good. But definitely a departure and not representative of their work thus far. Although definitely fabulous ear-candy and 4 stars at that, I am somewhat disappointed that they did not evolve musically (if they had wanted to do something different) and instead have become retrospective to material that has already been done to death a long long time ago.

This one is a beautiful adopted child of the series.

5.0 out of 5 stars sophisticated, relaxing chillout, October 1, 2005

This review is from: Cafe Del Mar Volumen Once (Audio CD)
Some people like the earlier Cafe Del Mar compilations, and I have some earlier ones myself (5 and 8, for example). And certainly those compilations had some great tracks on them, often from very famous artists. But for some reason, I'm really enjoying some of these later Cafe Del Mar releases even more. They seem a bit more cohesive and this one in particular doesn't have any tracks that start to get tired after awhile. Maybe it's because I don't know the tracks already from other compilations, so every track is a surprise.

This CD is a great abum to put on when you have friends over for drinks and conversation...or just if you want to chill by yourself. Every time I listen to it, I hear something that I didn't before. I highly recommend it.

If like me, you have been following this series from the beginning, you`ll know that there have been a few dodgy tracks, let alone cd`s in the recent past, well thankfully BRUNO seems to have taken time out and reflected upon this. What we have here is a welcome return to the ambient tunes, which quite literally takes you off to that happy place in your mind, where nothing can disturb you, absolute Chillout at it`s best, but not lullingly, a little more up-tempo type than say the balearic style. Of course thats my opinion, and no doubt there will be opposition, but please dont hesitate, this really is a worthwhile purchase.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting and Solid But More New Age Than "Chill", January 14, 2006
This review is from: Cafe Del Mar Volumen Once (Audio CD)
Chill really should be a dance oriented tracks for the day after ... these are pleasant tracks but they tend to be more New Age tracks - nice but not chill in the sense of the previous CD's in the set and not in the dance music sense.

Now, if you're a DJ looking for chill-like tracks you can manipulate, twist and drop these on top of other beats - this CD should do the trick for you but for straight listening - not really properly 'chilled,'
