5.0 out of 5 stars Cafe Paradiso is Gorgeous! Erquiaga is brilliant !, December 16, 2002
This review is from: Cafe Paradiso (Audio CD)
I've owned Cafe Paradiso for about a year. I received it as a Chrismas gift last year. It was my best and most enduring gift. I loved it then, and I'm in love with it even more now.
I never write reviews, but I came back here to order 5 Cafˇ Paradiso CDs to give as Christmas gifts, and I realize I have to make my feelings know about this CD.
It is absolutely beautiful, it creates such magic, such a wonderful vibe. Steve Erquiaga's brilliance as a guitarist and musician is only surpassed by his unique ability to touch you with every note he plays, he gently wraps you in his music. It's truely amazing.
If you don't have this CD, get it ! You won't be sorry, I guarantee it !

5.0 out of 5 stars great for any mood, August 22, 1999

This review is from: Cafe Paradiso (Audio CD)
This is my most favorite CD. I had never heard his music before I saw him play a "living room" concert for the public radio channel in Cincinnati in the fall of '98. Cafe Paradiso was given to the guests and since then it's been my first choice no matter what my mood is. I feel really lucky to have been able to see this amazing muscian play live! I am so moved every time I listen to this CD. So much so that I would love to see if he would play at my wedding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cafe Paradiso by Erquiaga, May 1, 2003

I own hundreds of guitar music tapes and CDs by as many artists. I must say that I was stunned by this arrangement of Presto (JS Bach) and consider it one of the finest performances I have ever heard. This CD is 1 of the best collections of guitar music I have even heard, I would pay $ for the second CD, if Steve were to ever produce another.

5.0 out of 5 stars A guitar music fan from Vienna, Austria, January 27, 1999
This review is from: Cafe Paradiso (Audio CD)
Indeed an incredible CD - from the transcriptions of classical pieces for guitar as well as for the interpretation of Mr. Erquiaga and also for the quality of the recordings, which bring the guitar right into your living room!

I met Erquiaga during the "Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Camp" in 2005. The camp is rather traditional style Jazz camp and more focused on improvising. I am a guitar player and Erquiaga was our combo teacher. We had three sax players, a piano, drums, an upright bass, and a guitar. You get the idea... I found him an excellent Jazz music educator. And I also found him as a great jazz guitar player after seeing him playing during the faculty concert. The camp is all about Jazz.

After the camp is over, I did some web search to find any Erquiaga's CD and I found this one. Without thinking much nor reading about it I just ordered it. When I put the CD into my CD player, I was just stunned in two ways: (1) It was not a Jazz. (2) What a great music it is. I was amazed by his versatility and the beauty of his music no matter what it is. I normally listen to Jazz but this CD is very frequently placed on my CD player. Great work Erquiaga! I am truely impressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars cafe paradiso, December 17, 1999

I purchased this CD on a "whim" and absolutely love it. It seems each piece selected is a beautiful poem...one can feel the passion and love emerge through each piece. If you close your eyes and just listen, this music will transport you to the gentle hills of Tuscany...one peaceful beautiful dusk. It takes you away and lets you dream....just wonderful.

Bach never sounded this good in guitar, or any other instrument for that matter! I've been telling friends about this gem of an album, which also includes music by Ennio Morricone. Two thumbs up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Guitar virtuoso, July 4, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Cafe Paradiso (Audio CD)
I collect classical guitar recordings, and Erquiaga's Presto track is perhaps one of the most impressive guitar virtuoso pieces I've ever heard. Amazing technical ability brought to bear to make beautiful music. A must-have disc for anyone into classical guitar.

5.0 out of 5 stars As Good As It Gets, March 13, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Cafe Paradiso (Audio CD)
Erguiaga's interpretations, style and techniques speak volumes of his musical imagination and talents as a guitarist. This collection will fascinate even, maybe particularly, students of the classical guitar as much during the hundredth listening as during the first!
