Review
If I were a part of what the pocket-size book calls the "Philadelphia Coffee Culture," I wouldn't have to read about it - I might even be pictured in it. The 64-page paperback is the sleek, combined effort of publisher/art director Jennifer Linden, editor/writer Scott McCormick and photographer Dominic Episcopo. The project began about five years ago, when Linden created a coupon book for local coffeeshops. This year, she decided to revive her work as a reference for a burgeoning population of local coffee-lovers. She looked up her cup-o-joe contacts, scoped out a few new businesses and compiled a catalog of 75 Philadelphia-area cafes. She hired McCormick to recount a brief history of the local coffee scene and to write up a handful of noteworthy cafes. Episcopo's simple, crisp photos of local java joints transform Linden's tiny tome into a volume worthy of any caffeine aficionado's coffee-table collection. But for coffee house non-hipsters like me, Cafe Philadelphia! will get a bit more use - perhaps even as a guidebook. --

From the Inside Flap
Cafe Philadelphia has divided the city into sections and lists cafes by their geographical location. Each section is arranged in alphabetical order. Under each cafe listing, along with the address and phone number, are reference symbols to help you find a cafe that suits your needs. You can also look up a cafe or roaster by name in the index found at the back of the book. Throughout the listings you will find a few short stories about some of the interesting cafes Philadelphia has to offer. Philadelphia coffee roasters produce outstanding coffee. At the end of the book we list a few roasters, along with hints for ordering out and making a great cup of coffee at home.
