Typically great stuff from the mind of Jonathan Katz. Equally a crowd-pleaser
and a "comedian's comedian", you may remember him from the short-lived but well-loved animated series "Dr. Katz" (now out on DVD).
This CD is Jonathan returning to his standup roots, and the blend of old and new never hits a sour note throughout.
All comedy fans should get this!

This isn't funny to me: Hi, I'm a comedian and sometimes comedians do this kind of thing or that kind of thing, and I'm going to do this kind of thing right now. That is essentially the kind of humor you will find on this album. It doesn't work for me because it dissolves any pretense of spontaneity. Katz brags that he has been doing comedy for so long that he's not at all uncomfortable "working the room." He then proceeds to "work the room." Some of the jokes and set-ups are good, but he keeps ruining the routine by commenting on what he is doing as a comedian, and talking about what he used to do as a comedian, instead of actually being funny in the moment that is being recorded. He's at times either trying too hard or not hard enough, and this fragmented approach to comedy doesn't make me laugh.

I've been a fan of John Katz since his amazing Seinfeld type animated show about nothing, Dr. Katz Professional Therapist (look for the DVD box set). If you also liked the dry deadpan humor of that show and the one or two stand up specials of Katz you'll dig this CD.

All in all this was a great cd, if you love Jonathan Katz and appreciate his timed humor, I am a huge fan of the Dr. Katz: Professional Therapist cartoon. One thing I would have loved to know before I bought this is that the beginning of the cd is pretty much all clean language until you get to the track called caffinated and then he starts dropping F bombs. It was very unexpected and unnecessary in my opinion. Other than that very funny.
