Bob Wake is a master stylist, but even more important his stories dig deep and go far.
"Visiting" is one of my all time favorites and a piece I point others to who are interested in learning the art of the short story (There is a creative leap in "Visiting," like the last line of a great poem, yet it has been beautifully set up by everything that has gone before. The theme of the story is loss, being left behind, wanting to rise up above all the mess of living as an adult on earth. The grandmother is salvation. Not just as a person, or her fundamentalist beliefs, but salvation of the human strength and courage she represents that has served many generations in their anguish).
Each story has something unique to offer. What a treasure! Do yourself a favor and download Caffeine. Prepare not only for a great read, but for great literature.
