It works. Very efficient use of the heat coming off of the wood-burning stove. You might find where some people state that it doesn't work, that it hardly spins or that it can't even move a piece of paper that you might place in front of it when checking airflow. To those reviews, I state that they did not perform proper placement as placement is the key. My...

3.0 out of 5 stars Eco fan good but short life
I purchased an Eco fan two years ago and after a couple of winters of thinking it was really great, this winter it slowly stopped working. I have since read that other people have had this problem and that the fan has a two year life and then the motor slowly burns out. This is a dissapointment since the fan is pricey and I really only use it for three or four months...

It works. Very efficient use of the heat coming off of the wood-burning stove. You might find where some people state that it doesn't work, that it hardly spins or that it can't even move a piece of paper that you might place in front of it when checking airflow. To those reviews, I state that they did not perform proper placement as placement is the key. My wood-burning stove is an insert to my fireplace and I have my fan located on one of the sides, a few inches from the front and angled a few degrees to the center. The fan takes advantage of temperature differentials, meaning that it needs cooler air as well as hot. Thus, place the fan on the side and not dead center. My particular fan starts spinning (albeit slowly) when the stove's at a surface temp of about 100 degrees F. Spins faster as the stove temp increases. It's very quiet and is designed to move air in a wide dispersion (vs. a more narrow field, like you might get with a high-speed, 120V fan). I like it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great quiet fan!, January 31, 2010

This fan is great. It is small and discreet but really circulates the air. It also doesn't make ANY noise unlike the blower on the wood stove. We use it as an indicator for when to put another log on the fire, too. When the fan slows down-time for more wood! And-it doesn't cost us anything to operate it since it runs off the heat of the fire. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cooling down a too-large stove, December 19, 2008
By
I'd seen these for a while, but thought them way too expensive for what they offer. Having put in a big stove in a small area, I wanted a way to move some of the heat around the rest of the room and adjoining hallway. I tried a small ac fan but it blew cool air which wasn't what I wanted.

This fan works well right out of the box, and the way it picks up speed as the stove heats is great. You don't have to bother with turning it off, it doesn't give an unpleasant draft even when right in front of it and it is totally quiet. It does slightly hinder feeding the stove from above, but overall it's a great addition. It makes the room in front of the stove much more comfortable, and the heat is spread out more evenly: just what the manufacturer claims...

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Great, January 21, 2010

I bought this fan after seeing similar ones at friends homes. I have a wood stove in my basement and this fan is perfect. I don't have to wonder if its on or if I remembered to shut it off before going to bed. Just make sure that you follow the instructions for placement as I do know someone who burnt out their motor by putting the fan in the middle of the stove.

I'm buying my third. I bought one the first year they were available, and then I dropped it getting it out for the 2nd or 3rd year. They're pretty carefully calibrated, so it was walking over the stove top--something got bent. Got another then-- (about 6 years ago?). It was working fine. I put it away while I had some interior work done this winter so no one would bump it off, and now it doesn't work. I store it in the original box and packing. I paid $120 divided by about 6 is $20 a year. Worth every penny.

I use it on a free-standing nat'l gas space heater--most of what I have in my 720 square feet. It helps A LOT to get heat into the bathroom. Yes, the heat still rises. I have a Vornado to deal with that. It works good too. Put the fan on an edge so it's pulling cold air in over the heater. Point it over the top of the stove. Don't put it an edge trying to pull the hot air from the heater into the room. It works by blowing hot air not pulling hot air.

4.0 out of 5 stars Be sure your stovetop is large enough, November 19, 2008
This review is from: Caframo Ecofan Original, Black with Nickel Blade (Tools & Home Improvement)
The fan is working just fine. I should have measured my stovetop before I ordered. With the model of stove we have, it provides only a small space to sit the fan. It sits very close to the stovepipe but it still seems to be moving the air.

I PURCHASED THIS FAN ABOUT 7 YEARS AGO AS A GADGET THAT MY FATHER WOULD BUY (REST HIS SOUL), AND IT IS TREMENDOUS!! IT DOES EXACTLY AS IT IS ADVERTISED. IT SOFTLY MOVES THE AIR AROUND THE HOUSE. I HEAT A @2400SQ RANCHER WITH A PINE BARREN STOVE FROM ONE END OF THE HOUSE AND IT KEEPS THE HEAT MOVING AROUND JUST FINE. IT'S BEEN DROPPED SEVERAL TIMES TOO!

HINT... AFTER THE 3RD YEAR IT HAD TROUBLE STARTING AND RAN SLOW... JUST A DROP OF 3-IN-1 OIL ON THE SHAFT FIXED IT! NOW I DO IT EVERY SEASON. IT RUNS FROM SEPT. TO MAY!!

WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND IT!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not for all stoves, October 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Caframo Ecofan Original, Black with Nickel Blade (Tools & Home Improvement)
The fan works as advertised, however, it may not do the best job for everyone. I am guessing that depending on your stove and the position of your chimney, you may or may not get a good speed. I tried different positions for three days and simply couldn't find one that works - either the base was not too hot, if I placed it on the edge of the stove away from the chimney, or it was too close to the chimney and there was not enough of a temp difference to move it. So, I returned to amazon. I would advise trying it out and playing with the position on your stove. If you can't get it to spin fast enough, return it.

I thoroughly researched the internet before making this purchase and I have not been disappointed by this fan. I have only used it as a trial during August when really a wood burning stove should not be necessary but some cold days foreced me to light up. Works beautifully , the whole room warms quickly in a way that it did not do before ,used to be too much heat around the stove and a cool spot at the far end of the room. Noticeable reduction in fuel use .
I will probably buy another as I have two stoves.
Delighted so far!
