Kit likes a gold braclet and steals it. Kit ends up having to work 20 hours in the Humane Society. I loved this book because it has something to do with a girl my age and animals.(I love animals) This story...

After a while Kit seems to find the key to her cage!

I thought Cages was an OK book but I didn't like it very well and I thought it was a little too predictable. I would mostly recommend this book to any girl in grades 4 and up.

It was really sad, but it shows you that when it comes to having problems you are no where near alone. Kit is a great charter! She may not be perfect, but she is much better that way!The old man in the book is so smart! At the end I was so glad to see Kit's mother have the look of pride in her eyes!!! Kit deserved it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Cages- A Review, March 4, 2006
This review is from: Cages (Paperback)
First of all I have to say that I find it interesting that some people thought this book was boring and some people loved it. I could see where the male population might stick up their nose to this or those who just aren't interested in dogs may find it dull as well, but personally, I found it captivating.
This book was basically about a girl named Kit who is having a difficult time. Her stepdad gets drunk and her mom doesn't want to face the facts. A snobby rich girl gets the lead for the play and Kit is stuck making posters. So Kit's depression causes her to suddenly steal a bracelet from Pierre's (a jewelry store). She is caught and sentenced to work at the Humane Society for 20 hours. This experience causes her to take action and understand herself. I personally loved this book but I've always loved animals. P.s. I realized that if Ms. Fenton would have chosen Kit to be the lead none of this would have happened. One decision can make or break you. This situation "broke" Kit but worked out for the better. ;)

I first read this when I was girl in the early nineties. Years later I still remember the vivid sequences of Kit's struggles. This is a great book for young teen girls who are struggling with issues at home, alcoholism, step parents and just relating to their parents in general. This book deals with teen issues in realistic manner, I like how Kit shop lifts and from perhaps the biggest mistake of her life is able to grow and to find her true self. Other themes highlighted in this book are self worth, jealousy and responsibility for one's actions. This is a great read and a classic for young teens. Girls will especially like the scenes with Kit and the humane society.

This book shows a lot of feeling and presents a lot of things for discussion. Kit learns how to deal with some problems the hard way. She is in a world where a lot of things aren't fair and don't make very much sense. And when she goes to work with the dogs, things start making sense and she pieces her life back together.

5.0 out of 5 stars Have Loved It For A Long Time!, September 24, 2009
This review is from: Cages (Paperback)
The first time I read this book was about 15 years ago. Since then, I have read it on dozens of other occasions because it never fails to leave me satisfied.

The story revolves around Kit, a ninth grader who has just discovered she was passed over for the lead role in her school play. To add insult to injury, the role was given to a self-involved girl that Kit is not particularly fond of. Disappointed and upset, Kit heads home at the end of the day thinking she will spend the evening relaxing to cheer herself up. When she arrives, she finds her stepdad in the middle of a binge drinking session, and her mother tip-toeing around to placate him. In no mood for her stepdad's belligerence, they argue, and Kit leaves even more troubled than before. Unsure of where to go, Kit ends up at the local mall where she runs into Marcie, the girl who won the lead role in the play. Marcie's father is buying her a gold bracelet as a "congratulations" present. In a moment of jealousy, confusion and frustration, Kit shoplifts a gold bracelet for herself. Her decision sets off a chain reaction of events that open her eyes to who she is, and she wants to be.

What stuck with me when I was younger was that Kit takes responsibility for her actions. Although her decisions were affected by her stepdad's words, she holds herself accountable for her choice to shoplift and the resulting consequences. Kit finds a strength in herself and plans to make ammends. And even though it takes her several tries to set her life straight, she emerges with a new understanding of herself and the relationships with the people she loves. Kit learns from her mistakes, and the reader learns with her.

By the last chapter, I always want to stand up and give Kit a round of applause. I hope other readers feel that way too! Definitely 5 stars!

This book is about a girl named Kit Hathaway Who most of the time argues with her step dad Wayne. One day Kit stole a gold bracelet, and got caught. She then had to work at the humane society, and if she didn't get in any more trouble with the police for two years, it would be dropped off of her permanent record. While doing her time at the humane society, Kit got attached to a dog named Lady. Later in the book, kit has to find someone who would adopt Lady. Someone Kit knew, Marcia, wants to adopt lady. When they meet at the humane society, Kit finds out that Lady had been euthanized. Marcia then decides to adopt a different dog.

A Kid's Review
This review is from: Cages (Paperback)
This story is about a young girl named Kit Hathaway. Kit is faced with many challenges and ends up with one big feat. For example, one of her battles is going to a Juvenile Court Committee for stealing a golden bracelet from a store in the mall. The committee sentences Kit to twenty hours of community service at a local animal adoption center. Kit finds a way to break free of her "cage" and is whole lot happier.

I thought this was a good book for many reasons. First of all, some of the character descriptions were really good. I also liked the moral of the story, but I'm not going to let you in on it until you read the book.

I would recommend this book for those whom have younger siblings. They might want to read this to them for a weekly activity.

I give this book three stars for the moral, and the descriptions. Read this book and you decide what to give it.

This book is about Kit Hathaway. Kit has a best friend named Tracy. They both try out for a play. Tracy tries out for a small part when kit tries out for the lead, Frankie. Kit's competition is Marcia homer. Who kit thinks is spoiled, brat, and a bragger. Kit didn't get the lead. Marcia did. Tracy told her to do the triple b treatment. That means a good book, a bag of chocolate, and a bubble bath. But she comes home to a drunken Wayne, her stepfather. So she runs away to the mall while Wayne is yelling from the house to her as she runs, ANIMAL! Kit runs into Marcia homer when she arrives at the mall in Pierre's. Marcia is buying a gold choker. She sees a gold bracelet and is compelled to steal it. She steals the bracelet and promptly gets caught. She has to do 20 hours of serves work at the animal shelter. She meets a dog named lady. She comes to the shelter and finds her euthanized. Tracy gets suspicious. She gets an assignment her speech class. She has to do a report on shoplifting. She does the report with flying colors. I sort of liked the book. Because it was good in some parts and not so good in others. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves animals.(especially dogs) they would really like this book. Three stars because it was good but over all not really.
