4.0 out of 5 stars A good listen, but fails to stand out, May 9, 2003

This review is from: Cain's Way (Audio CD)
Let me start out by saying that Hate are a good band with lots of talent. The problem is that their brand of DeathMetal is... well, played out.

They are from Poland, which I suppose is why they are so [angry]. If having your country completely destroyed by a massive war between the Nazis and the Soviet Union during World War II, then being oppressed by Russian style totalitarianism for 50 years isn't a good reason to be [angry], then I don't know what is. Just for that, my hat goes off to these guys.

That being said, there's a hell of a lot of extremely brutal Death metal coming out of Poland these days and "Cain's Way" is worth listening to. It doesn't quite measure up to "Litany" by Vader, but it's a solid effort in its own right.

Admittedly, they aren't breaking any new ground, but for straight-up uber-heavy death metal, they are top notch. The guitar work is good, the vocals are low and roaring, there are some good solos, and the drumming is excellent, etc. etc.. The only problem, in my eyes, is that they fail to stand out in the over-crowded deathmetal scene. I'm sure if this came out like 5 or 6 years ago we'd be saying, "Woah, these guys are intense/extreme/crazy/(insert typical deathmetal descriptive term)/brutal/heavy." Unfortunately, they just don't bring anything new or original to the table.

Therefore, if you are looking for something innovative and original, try Nile, Atheist, Dillinger Escape Plan, or Meshuggah, but if you just want to bang your head to some of the heaviest "stuff" out on the market then pick this up and, while you're at it, check out Sinister, Dying Fetus, and (of course) Vader.

This CD rocks. It's not as good as their previous album Holy Dead Trinity. compared to other deathmetal on the market this stuff kicks [butt]. The only thing i could say is bad about it is the alot of songs lack a theme of any kind...there are so many changes there are not any repetive parts. Which is good for complexitya nd adds to their origionality but makes it less easy to get into at first.

This is heavy (stuff). Not for black metal or nu-metal fans, because its just too [gut]sy. I give this a full 5 stars

2.0 out of 5 stars Trying to hard, January 27, 2003

Jesus Christ being crucified upside down on a flaming pentagram? No, it's not Marilyn Manson trying to fit in. It's a Polish heavy metal band known as Hate. I am by no means a Satanist, just a fan of heavy metal. And this, to be quite honest, is just a pathetic atempt at that. This band's predecessors would be quite disappointed. If you are a fan of black metal I would say listen to bands like Mayhem and Burzam (interesting story between those two). However, if you are like me, I still just recommend Metallica, Pantera, Soilwork, and to a more progressive audience Mudvayne. At least these bands have talent and are able to portray talent.
