Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Some like it hot and hilarious, and Hill delivers both in this intoxicating addition to her Cajun Bad Boys series (after Tall, Dark and Cajun). This time around, Charmaine LeDeux, a four-times-wed ex–Miss Louisiana with big hair and a string of beauty salons, shares the stage with her ex-husband Raoul Lanier, who has just been released from prison after serving two years on trumped-up drug charges. Charmaine is on the lam from the Dixie Mafia after borrowing money from Bucks 'r Us at an interest rate of $1,000 a day. Enter Raoul, who informs Char that they are still married and that she's half owner of his ranch. He wants a legal divorce and for her to sign over her half of the ranch to him—until he learns her life is in danger. Hiding out on the Louisiana prairie is easy since it's little known and in the middle of nowhere, but ignoring the sexual chemistry primed to explode between her and Raoul is not. Add Char's matchmaking, spandex-wearing aunt to the mix, along with three miscreant ranch hands and all the players from Hill's previous books, and the chuckles never cease. A minor mystery is thrown in for good measure, but the real fun here lies in the book's side-splitting dialogue and hotter-than-Cajun-spice erotica.

From Booklist

*Starred Review* It's not easy to be a born-again virgin, but spandex-wearing, slogan-sporting, red-hot mama Charmaine LeDeux is giving it her best shot. After being married and divorced four times, she's pretty much had it with the opposite sex. But just as she begins to get the hang of this virgin thing, Raoul, hunky husband number one, brings her proof that not only are they still married, they've each inherited half of his father's cattle ranch. Hopeful matchmakers abound as the two are forced to live together, from the outrageous octogenarian Tante Lulu to several cheerfully interfering cowhands. Even St. Jude offers an unsolicited opinion from time to time. But reconciliation isn't the only issue at hand: Charmaine can't forget the $50,000 she owes a Dixie loan shark. Hill, who has made readers chuckle, chortle, guffaw, and giggle with her hilarious Viking series--A Very Virile Viking (2003), Tale of Two Vikings [BKL Ap 15 04]--will tickle their funny bones yet again as she writes in her trademark sexy style, the perfect accompaniment to a hot Cajun setting. A real crowd-pleaser, guar-an-teed. Shelley Mosley

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Sandra Hill Hit, July 24, 2004
This review is from: The Cajun Cowboy (Mass Market Paperback)
If you liked THE LOVE POTION and TALL, DARK, and CAJUN you will love this book.

Back are the members of the unforgettable LeDeux family, with Tante Lulu, Tee John, Remy, Lucian, Rene and their half-sister Charmaine. It seem Charmaine has been married and divorced 4 times. Then Raoul Lanier, comes back to inform her they have never been divorced.

Charmaine doesn't know if she is happy or not to have her woeful marital history blocked out. But now she has to deal with Raoul. And he still knocks her socks off. NOt to mention she has decided to become a born-again virgin.

Raoul's father has left her half of his ranch with Raoul. She badly needs money because she is in debt to the Dixie Mafia.

As with any Sandra Hill book there is loads of fun and laughter. With the best will in the world she can hardly resist Raoul. He is determined to win her back because he still loves her.

So as she hides out from her loan-shark, Raoul pulls out all the stops to prove to her that he is the man of her dreams.

A fun read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mon Dieu!!!, July 18, 2004

WOW! This was the first book I've ever read by Sandra Hill and man, let me tell you, she did not dissappoint! This book was everything a good romance novel should be... and more. I laughed, I cried, I sympathized with the chracaters and I certainly found myself wishing for a Cajun Cowboy of my own during those choice steamy scenes!

The action in this novel starts in the first chapter and doesn't even end after you've turned the last page... Ms. Hill ends this novel with the perfect segue into the next novel of her series without taking away from the impact of the current story... I can't wait to track down her others books!

Hot Loo-zee-anna summer! This gal's a winner!!! :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Hill's Back in the Saddle and the Bayou, August 14, 2004
This review is from: The Cajun Cowboy (Mass Market Paperback)
I love Sandra Hill's sense of humor. I was less than thrilled with Tale of Two Vikings but The Cajun Cowboy had me laughing from page one.

Charmaine, the fluffy hairdresser you meet in the other two Cajun books is back with her own story. I can't say that I was overly interested in her character but Hill really paints a three dimensional woman who is constantly misjudged because of what she appears to be on the outside.

In walks Rusty, her ex husband and the bane of her libido. She tries to avoid him but it's impossible and bam, the ex in husband isn't so ex anymore when she finds that they aren't really divorced.

Hijinks ensue. She hides out from loan sharks at the dilapidated ranch they both own half of. Secrets surface, the two of them have a lot to work through. Loads of scorching chemistry between them erupts into great interludes, including one at a hourly motel that's also funny in addition to being sexy.

Tante Lulu is back with her St. Jude statues and hope chests, along with the LeDeux boys. You meet Charmaine's stripper mother and her airstream trailer and personal trainer as well.

The Cajun Cowboy is a great follow up to Tall Dark and Cajun and I'm eagerly awaiting Rene's story next!!
