5.0 out of 5 stars King of Cajun Dancehall Music, November 25, 2008
By
This review is from: Cajun Legend (Audio CD)
Great classic Cajun music from one of the greatest Louisiana dancehall musicians.

Aldus Roger set the standard by which Cajun dance bands are judged even today. Aldus surrounded himself with some of the best backing musicians of his time -- some of whom are still the best today -- and helped bring Cajun music to a wider audience thanks to his weekly television program on Lafayette, Louisiana's KLFY Channel 10.

This CD compiles some of his best tracks from his LaLou albums. Every track here is a winner and are some of the best-recorded Cajun songs I've ever heard. Recorded 'back in the day' with analog equipment, there is a warmth that I just don't hear in today's Cajun music. Not one to get into the digital vs. analog argument, I will simply say that Cajun music just isn't done justice recorded digitally.

Regardless, this disc is on regular rotation in my playlist. The performances are sharp, the recording is clean and well-balanced and the music just makes me want to pop a cold beer -- Jax, if you please -- and then hit the dancefloor.

If you're looking for your first taste of classic Cajun dancehall music from the innovator himself, be sure and pick up this disc.
