Product Description

Small-town life means big-time business in the newest HISTORY® series Cajun Pawn Stars. Follow Jimmie "Big Daddy" Deramus, owner of the largest pawn shop in Louisiana, as he transacts a rural spin on community sales incorporating everything from donkeys to swine to Civil War guns. With the help of his little brother and feisty daughter Tammie, plus a host of quirky sellers, Jimmie's shop transitions from trading post to town square, bank and...asylum.

Feeling folksy? If History's smash hit "Pawn Stars" is too urbane for you with its Las Vegas setting, you might want to try something with a little more twang. "Cajun Pawn Stars" could be just that program, but I'm not sure if this version has quite the instant appeal. I know there is a contingent of viewers who love this much more than the original, and I know there are vocal opponents who find this edition far less real and/or compelling. For myself, I fall somewhere in between. The show is caught between being a rip-off and a spin-off. It wants to adhere so closely to the winning formula that defined "Pawn Stars" that, especially in early episodes, the drama can seem incredibly forced. As the season progresses and you get to know the cast, the interactions start to feel more organic--but it's still a show that has yet to find its own voice and viewpoint.

Set in Alexandria, Louisiana at the Silver Dollar Pawn and Jewelry Center, the colorful proprietor is Jimmie "Big Daddy" DeRamus. His brother and his daughter are among the other regulars and the show hopes to capitalize on wacky family interactions. As you might expect, there is much down home humor to be gleaned from Big Daddy, his family, his staff, and those that visit the shop. Some works, some feels strained. To me, the star of the show (at least initially) is the massive shop itself that seems to have every manner of merchandise crammed into its corners and crevices. It would be a fascinating place to visit and poke through, that's for sure.

Season One is comprised of 8 episodes on one disc for just shy of three hours worth of total programming. There are no special features, but the disc offers Spanish and English subtitles.

I'll stick with the Las Vegas one, it is more relatable to me, but that's just me, three stars isn't bad.

Not like that Vegas show, this one is well; served with a side of GATOR. Deelicios. A great thing to watch while you eat Crawdads (I never did, just saying).

3.0 out of 5 stars Spin-off of the Las Vegas Pawn Stars February 5, 2014
Format:Amazon Instant Video
I assume it only lasted one season as 2012 appears to be the only season's OK if not a tad hokey.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than the original... I think it may be. January 14, 2014
Format:Amazon Instant Video
I actually enjoyed this MORE than the original. Which is surprising since I used to visit Gold & Silver way before they became famous. The characters are genuine and remind me of when I lived in Louisiana.
